Womanly-sized riders, unite!

Hum, only the largest sizes left in the Bradleys - BUT there are a few pairs of Treadstone full seats in sizes 36 and 38 that look nice for only $27! I thought about buying them, but I am not a big fan of full seats.[/QUOTE]

Oh, my…I’m going to have to go back and look…didn’t see the Treadstones. I have a pair and the are on my “most comfortable” list!

a PSA for devonaire wearers: i went into the local tack store on sunday to buy a couple new pairs of breeches (am getting tired of sewing up the holes in my old ones :D) and, taking a 32R, tried on another pair of 32R’s. i couldn’t even get them all the way up. so it would appear that devonaire might have changed their sizing. i even double checked to make sure i wasn’t inadvertently trying to get into youth or children’s breeches, but no; the label said “ladies.”

something to think about if you’re considering ordering from the catalog… :frowning:

question for anyone…has anyone tried either the tuffrider plus field boots or the fuller filly field boots? I have an 18" calf…so trying to find tall boots is impossible and can’t afford the custom route. smartpak has the tuffriders for 180—am really thinking of trying them…

Sadly I didn’t think the Tuff Rider boot had wide enough calves sizes… :frowning:

I feel your pain I am in the same boat. I believe Devonaire field boots do go in an XX-wide. I have a pair of those and for now they work. Might be close enough to work for 18" calf.

twoxover: The Devonair Camden should work for you–depending on what size shoe you wear, they come in 18" calf widths. They also have a discreet elastic panel next to the zipper. They’re $209 at Dover (so add a million dollars for shipping!) but seem worth a look. http://www.doversaddlery.com/camden-zip-back-field-boot-xxw/p/X1-38870/#ProductTabs

Modern show coat for bigger sizes?

Show season is approaching and I really would like a new dressage coat. My current coats are just not flattering—they’re too long and overwhelm my petite frame but, since I’m also a cube, the only coats that fit me are plus sizes. I spent big bucks getting one coat tailored but it’s wool – hot and no stretch.

I’m pining for one of the new “modern” crossover coats: the shorter/shrunken cut, technical fabric with some stretch–like the Pikeur Skarlett or Tosca. I have an older Pikeur Diana (that I can’t ride in!) that is size DE48–it fits like a small 14. I need more room–I’m a 16 street size in jackets. A local tack store has the Skarlett in stock and I was thrilled to see it was marked size 16R. I soon discovered that the 16 is really a UK 16–too small for me.

Has anyone seen a modern coat that might fit me? I’m willing to spend to get a good coat. Thanks!

Highly recommend the Arista Modern Dressage Coat. Technical fabric that is super stretchy, light, and water resistant. Like it better than Animo fabric style. I was shopping on a budget and tried bunches of stretch fabric mix jackets that were no where near stretchy in reality and ended up buying Smartpak Eventer Dressage coat with mesh lining as it was most stretchy I could find without going up to Anmio or Grand Prix custom coat pricing and had to have it altered. But then at first show in the Smartpak coat I found the Arista at a show vendors booth and LOVED it. I wear 16-18 coat in most equestrian brands that run small, street clothes I usually wear 14-16, and I got the Arista in XL.

Thanks, Char. The coat is really attractive but looks very long in the photos. I’m super short waisted and need a shorter coat.

For the price it would be worth getting it and then just getting waist raised by a seamstress. It would still in total be less than pricey animo and/or custom coats. I just had to do this with a Shadbelly.

I don’t know how tall you are (I’m just under 5’4"). I’m short waisted and quite busty, I’d say a size 14 or 16 in street clothes. Surprisingly, the Cavallo washable Goldstern coat fits me well (size 18). It’s not super high tech–regular lining instead of mesh–but it’s polyester and stretchy. It’s one of those with a waist seam but this one actually falls right on me. It’s a bit too long but not terrible.

Try it.

Thanks, Vesper. I’m 5’6" and have tried the Goldstern. All I could find was an 18L–someone told me they don’t make an 18R but I’ll look online.

I don’t own either of those boots, but I know people who have tried both. Both of them definitely have wide enough calves. However, the Tuffriders run extremely short. Too short to use for shows, unless you perhaps have a really short calf. The Fuller Fillies would be your better bet of the two, but I’ve also heard (from people I know in person and have seen the boots) of the boots having some quality issues, like zippers breaking right away.

I have a shoe question for you all. I wear a size 12 and would like to buy a good pair of comfortable boots for mud. I would love a pair of Dubarry-like boots, maybe Ovation or Dublin River Boots, but they only seem to go up to size 10 or 11.

Are there mud boots out there similar to those that go up to size 12? I’ve worn men’s sizes before and would be fine with that.

I have older semi custom effinghams – love them hope they last forever. I was very excited about the Fuller Fillies boots, great design concept, zipper, elastic, etc. Bought two pairs. First impression, I think the leather is cheap. Second, The zippers did not break, but would always come down when riding? Strange Took them to a boot repair, talked about the zippers, bad design. Zippers do not have lock to stay up. Strange:( Off to Ebay they went…

Did anyone else with Fuller Fillies boots have the same Zipper problem? Or was I lucky enough to have two pairs that were defective?

I have the FF boots and the zippers did slide down when they were tight/form fitting on my calves. I put a cable tie through the pull and around the elastic tab at the top and problem solved. I’ve since lost weight and now that they’re loose, the zippers stay up, no problem.

Other than that, no issues at all. I’ve had mine since they first appeared on the market, so maybe four years, and they’re still going strong. I ride in them all the time and they’ve held up great. They’d still clean up fine for a show, but they’re now so huge on my leg they make my calf look bigger than it is, so they won’t be show boots any more!

I have the FF field boots, too. I’d heard mixed reviews before buying them, so I was a little hesitant. When I got them, I didn’t understand the negative reviews. Mine are as nice as any Ariats I’ve ever owned. I haven’t had any problems with the zippers at all.

I have a pair of Fuller Fillies Field boots. I ordered the xxl but I think I should have ordered one size smaller. The leather is very nice. The problem I have with mine is the ankle has dropped quite a bit and rubs horribly on the back of my foot. I can not walk anywhere in them, except to get on the mounting block and back to my paddock boots. Someone suggested that they could perhaps be taken in on the top so they don’t drop as much but because the back of the boot is a stretchy panel I’m not sure if that is possible. I am hoping to just lose a little more weight in order to fit into my Ariats again. I’ve had absolutely no problem with the zippers on my FF.

As for Dublin knockoffs, Fuller Fillies carries boots that look just like them on their website.

I also wanted to say that I’ve been switching between two pairs of Piper breeches since November and couldn’t be happier. They have minimal wear in “rubbing areas” and I love being able to wear a higher quality breech in a size 40. On that note, do Tailored Sportsmen come in anything over a 38? I’ve found ariats in a size 40. The Dover near me carries nothing in over a 38 except the "up-to-the-ribcage’ pull on breeches. I don’t like low rise either and am having a hard time finding show breeches for under $100 that are of a higher quality fabric and either side or front zip. I’ll have another look through these posts as I’m sure there are leads here.

Saw the earlier post about dressage coats and just ordered this in a size 2xl.

I bought mine off the rack at Dover.

thank you all for the comments on boots…I’m going to try and score a pair of FF on ebay…
