Womanly-sized riders, unite!

I think we are more concerned about our weight than others are. Go and have fun.

BTDT. Go. I had a blast and didn’t care what people think. Still don’t.

I know! My short wide calves are just odd enough that field boots for me would have to be custom-made (so, like, $1,000). I’ll stick to my stretched-out half-chaps for now

Just do it…

OK, so I’m new here, I’m 50 and I’m definitely plus sized. I ride weekly and am about to (possibly) do my first show. Just on the flat and poles. Should I? I look kind of ridiculous at this weight (240 - my highest ever.) And I’m 50. And it costs a fortune. Am I wasting my money? Should I wait until I can do cross rails? I’m seriously concerned that no matter how well I ride, there is such bias against overweight riders.[/QUOTE]

Please go. Yes, you will feel self-conscious. No, nobody will notice it the way you do. And when you go in and complete your classes you will feel SO GOOD! GO! And come back and let us know how much fun you had

(And, IME, the bias against plus-sized riders is more of an online bias than a personal, face-to-face bias)

Definitely go! I’m younger than you but still plus sized. I just finished a show with many top 3 placings in the hunter ring. Judge rewarded the quality of our rounds, didn’t care that I wasn’t a stick like the other girls and women showing in our division. It’s all for fun anyways right? If you and your horse are capable, then why not? Go have a good time!

Reviving this helpful thread because I’m probably due for tall boots soon since I keep fixing the zipper on my beloved 10+ year old pair.

I’d love to hear about everyone’s current favorite wide calf tall boots. Thanks!

I have $399 Petrie 3000s in XHW that I put zippers and gussets in. MUCH nicer boot quality than many of those that are sold as wide calf, and easily accommodates my anywhere from 17.5-18.5 calf (I’ve gone up and down in weight in the past few years). I’ll go this route again.

Very helpful- thank you! I hadn’t thought of going that route before. My calf definitely changes a lot throughout the year!

I am an 18.5" calf and used to rely on Mountain Horse Richmond High Riders (found courtesy of this thread several years back!) but now that those are discontinued and my old pair finally bit the dust after 2 zipper repairs, my current pair of field boots are the Tredstep Donatello’s in the Plus size available from Smartpak. Smarpak got Tredstep to make them Donatello’s in sizes that accomodate up to 20" wide calves!! I’ve had them over a year now, school and show in them and they are holding up great.

Just got email today: Petrie 3000s are $334.99 at Dressage Extensions and Petrie 7000s are $494.99. So now I’m contemplating getting the 7000s. My current 3000s are great but 7 or 8 years old. At some point they will fail. This price is so good it might be worth getting a backup pair. I like the zipper my cobbler puts in better than the one the fancier boots are sold with, too.

Rescuer, Thanks for the info on the Tredstep boots. I am retired and don’t really show, but do like to do some clinics occasionally. I just couldn’t justify the cost of customs. I am so glad to see the different size options available.

A late Valentine’s present for all of us!

One of my fellow COTHers who is on my FB has posted this on her feed - as well as a company named Curvy Mare! They are funky full seats…I just thought I’d share the good news
Riders up!

For anyone who has ever worn the Fuller Fillies half chaps, how did you find the height? According to their size charts I should order the short version but I am really paranoid about them being too short if I do…

I usually wear the tall version of anything whatsoever, but I lucked into a set of regular-height FF half-chaps that have actually been quite decent for me. They’re very worn at this point but still have only settled a bit. Which is a long-winded way of saying I think they run a bit long, and if the size chart says you want the short version I’d go with it. (I don’t consider the “very worn” a quality problem; they’ve been my daily-wear chaps for years now and I’ve gotten good service from them.)

If by any chance you’re close enough that it’s a reasonable trip, the last time I was at the Smartpak retail store the clearance section had a bazillion sets of FF half-chaps at good prices, and a whole lot of them were in “short”. (Unlike Dover’s basement, the stuff in the Smartpak clearance section is usually priced to move fast.)

Plus Size TredStep Field Boots back in stock at Smart Pak 6/13/16

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Tredstep Donatello Field Boot-plus size will be back in stock at Smart Pak early next month. 6/13/16. I have the dress boot and am operating under the assumption that the field boot will fit similarly.

The foot, ankle and lower calf of these boots run slightly to the snug side (just very slightly in my case) while the calf is actually a bit big. I bought a half size up and may have the shoe repair guy take in just a bit off the upper-calf because they fit very well in all other respects. I have to say that whatever Tredstep did with the sole of these boots makes them hold my stirrups beautifully. My leg position is still a work in progress and my irons seemed to constantly shift around until I got these boots.

Bumping this thread to report on a good deal on some clearance Kastel Charlotte UV shirts at Riding Warehouse. I got one of these a month or so ago, and it is divine. Sizes seem to run true-to-size. US Rider members receive an additional 15% discount.

Does anyone know the best place to find Fuller Fillies products? Their website has been down for weeks. Does any other online store carry their full product line?

No clue. It seems American retailers have pretty much eliminated their line from inventory. Are they definitely still in business? I love my FF field boots and dread the day they die.

There is a Facebook group called something like Fuller Fillies Pre-Loved. You might find what you’re looking for in slightly used condition.

I thought that Fuller Fillies had a Facebook page, too, but I just checked and can’t find one.

A little digging found this…

PLEASE READ PLEASE READ PLEASE READ

Until further notice, we are unable to secure items from Fuller Fillies. They are closed for a short period of time whilst they relocate. Unfortunately there is no ETA for this as it is a work in progress. Until finalised, we can not order stock. This means boots from FF are unavailable for the immediate future. Orders for them are welcome; however, please expect a decent (16 week) delay.
Sincere apologies!

ETA…

That was in a Facebook page from an Aussie retailer.

If that is the case it kind of sums up my issue with Fuller Fillies in general…customer service. The fact that the website and the Facebook page have both vanished makes a person think that they are no longer trading…even if that is the case having a message thanking past customers for their support, and explaining the closure would be polite. If they are indeed relocating, then a “watch this space, we’ll be back” would be helpful.
