I have been eyeballing the Equissentials forEVER. What I really like about them–and am worried about–is the waistband. I have a pair of cotton leggings, I think yoga pants, that are my FAVES to ride in. This lovely wide waistband which feels flattering and supportive. BUT IS IT?? (flattering, that is?) And I’m afraid of that waistband… Is the equissentials material THICK enough too?
The material is pretty heavy (but comfortable in most weather, even though it’s cotton) and smoothes better than other brands I’ve tried. The waisband is flattering, and since they’re custom, you can get it right where you want it (presumably where it flatters most). I’m tellin’ ya, Joe is a tailoring genius (I believe he used to run a factory that made stuff for Burbury). If, on the off chance you get something that doesn’t fit (even if it was probably you who messed up your measuring), THEY WILL MAKE IT RIGHT.

I have a really small waist (big butt and hips) so have gotten the snaps and zips from Equissentials, and they are pretty flatteringly done. I usuallly get belt loops, too (need somewhere to hang my phone  ), on both the Eq and TRs.

I feel like folks must think I’m on the payroll for them, but Equissentials are just a wonderful company with a great product and worth every penny.

As are Tropical Rider.

Too few companies don’t give a damn after they’ve run the credit card, but both of these companies go the extra ten miles  to make sure you’re happy.

Bumping because I saw these on ebay and thought that for the price, (.99) The calves look fairly wide and maybe someone could use them. They’re not mine, so this isn’t a sales plug, 7’s are too small for my chubby feet!!!

Every time I see this thread I think it says Womany-sized rider, UNTIE! And I just imagine letting that belt loose a bit on my too-tight jeans.
And now, thanks to you, I do too!!

Citidog & MEP, thanks for the Equissentials plug, those are the kinds of specifics I was looking for. Alas, life has a rude way of interrupting, and they are out of the question right at this particular moment, but maybe by summer.

Vest update: LL Bean has a very cute, quite tailored little fleece vest which runs VERY VERY LARGE. It is cut just to the hip, which is very flattering IN the saddle, not-so-much out (IMO. I like things to cover up those hips :uhoh: ) It comes in very cute colours, though I got basic black. I got the 3xl, and it is very, very large on me, probably would have fit me when I was a 22/24 on top. I am not sure if I’m going to need the 1x or just the xl! I never have things be too big, especially from popular retailers. So… here’s the link. Don’t buy out all the blacks before I make my exchange, huh??? http://www.llbean.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=1&langId=-1&catalogId=1&categoryId=42464&parentCategory=4553&cat4=5495&productId=693391&display_id=50765&feat=sr&catalog_id=TA&from=&rtnComp=

The other thing I like about it is the collar style is going to actually work over a long-sleeve or scoop neck TEE SHIRT and still look quite professional. (catalogue shows it over a long sleeve and it looks very sharp) With a t-neck it is very flattering. And VERY cute colours.

I won a pair of effinghams on Ebay, but I don’t think they’ll be here in time, and have no idea if they’ll fit. Dress/show boots are off getting the foot stretched, and the Ovations I got from ToTD came back from the cobbler from getting snaps relpaced (wouldn’t unsnap) and zipper fixed, and the one snap fell apart completely the first time I touched it. Cobbler will make good–he’s excellent–but now it’s a timeline thing. :sigh: No STRESS or anything. I leave a week from today and basically have clothes for ONE day, not to mention FIVE. Biggest problem being I’ll be on my feet teaching as much as riding, but serious lessons too. I have this feeling I’m going to be lugging boots around and changing hourly. :uhoh:

Tack of the Day Alert!

TOD is selling On Course breeches, full seat, sizes up to 38L. Colors: Taupe, Navy, Black, and White. I own a several pair of their breeches and like them a lot.

The best half chaps I’ve found to fit my short, club-like calves is Pro-Chaps:

http://www.prochaps.com/HTMLGen/fr_2_produits_1.html

The site is in French :frowning: but there’s a few places here in the states that carry them… Barrington Saddlery in the Chicago 'burbs is one of them. They come is various sizes… length and width and are very stretchy. The leather is VERY good quality and worth the price. IMHO!

Mais non! If you go to the main page it’s in English.

Other folks on here have said good things about them, but I can’t really tell from the pics on the site what they are made of–are they all leather on the outside? How stretchy is the stretch panel?

I’m just about to go order. Just can’t decide what color to get…

Does anyone have any experience with Equitector’s (the UK outfit) tall riding boots? I’m putting together a dressage show outfit for this summer and all I have left to get is the dress boots. They come in a short, extra wide-calf version that looks like it will fit my 18" calves (which have unfortunately grown a half-inch wider since I’ve increased my riding hours!) and have steel toes to boot :).

Wow, you’ve been busy!

For those who were wondering about the Ovation wool dressage coat, I got mine today and LOVE it. Actually, it came last week, but it was slightly too snug across the chest, so I had to return it. (Terri with English Habit is AWESOME! http://www.englishhabit.com) I feel like I must be the hugest person in the world because I had to order such a big size, but I figure they might run small, plus I’m overly blessed with a chest. :sigh: Honestly, though, I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to find a coat that fits me and looks nice. I may end up replacing the buttons with somewhat nicer ones, but overall, I am thrilled with my purchase.

Thanks for following up on the coat!!:smiley: Glad you like it!

What about the arms? Are they forgiving for big-armed horses?

What about the arms? Are they forgiving for big-armed horses?
 They seem to be. The coat isn’t super stretchy, but there IS some give to it. I normally wear about a size 16/18 in regular clothes for my top half because of my arms/chest. I’m also kind of wide across the shoulders. I originally ordered a size 24, because I knew from trying on a Devon Aire coat at StateLine last fall, that a 20 was just a tad too snug for me. Well, Ovation’s size 24 turned out to be a bit too tight across my chest and didn’t give much across the back. It was a challenge reaching my arms forward. So, to be safe, I ordered a 28. It could be taken in a bit at the shoulders and the waist, but I don’t care. I’m just thrilled to have a coat I can MOVE in.

I just don’t get why the people who make these clothes have to make the sizing so WEIRD…

Now, I just need to find some good breeches and a new pair of boots later this year (after the saddle is paid off!), and I’ll be all set. Sweet Jesus, I never knew shopping could be so tedious!

LOL I accidentally said “horses” instead of people!

here’s a pair of nice schooling full chaps that might fit someone

The seller says she lost weight and now is a size 12 and they are much to big for her. Supposedly in good condition and priced VERY reasonably…

Nah, was just bored and surfing eBay, LOL!

I don’t need a new saddle… I don’t need a new saddle… I don’t need a new saddle…

I just thought I should update everyone on my vest/boot/half-chap saga…

As I’m sure you know, the temps in the N’east were BRUTAL last week. I left on Monday it was 43 degrees and sunny. An hour south, I hit white out snow squalls, and black ice. The interstate was closed for 3 hours for a fatal accident. By the time we arrived at our destination 5 hours south (took 8 to get there) temp had dropped to around 10 and the wind was picking up. By the next morning, we were dealing with 20-30 below windchills. That carried on for 3 days.

So I only wore 2 of my vests after all… and wore my puffy down jacket 90% of the time over it!

My new field boot Effinghams never arrived, thanks to the blizzard in the midwest, and my Ovations’ zipper broke the first time I tried them on. Ended up wearing the old Ariat half-chaps anyway, as I wore my double-layer Boinks 3 days out of 5, the single-layer-but-polarfleece boinks the 4th day, and only wore normal breeches on the last day… by then, no need to bother with boots, 'eh?

THANK GOD for this board and the help I got though, because one of the days we were all asked to wear black breeks (boinks are black, luckily! :D) and a black vest. Ayup. The one that took quite a few tries to get, but I DID get, thanks to the help here!

Picking up the 'effs on the way to work today. Will be interested to see if they fit after all…

:eek::eek::eek: Wow! Sounds like an adventure!! I’m happy to report that it’s 62 degrees here!! (that probably won’t last long) I am wondering what in the world I’m going to wear riding since everything that is clean and not packed away is COLD weather gear!:lol::lol:

Now that I’m venturing into the mentality that show season is coming… what do you gals think about the Equissentials breeches??

I know in previous posts everyone raved about them… what color is closest to the “puke green” that typical H/J folks wear? The “tan” or “green tea”? Does the fabric “hide” a womanly figure well?

I have not yet go the guts to order the Ovation coat… but I keep drooling over it.:yes:
