Womanly-sized riders, unite!
I bought the 38L they were way too long for me. If someone really needs long, they will be right.
YAY! I have a 34" inseam so I can never find breeches that are anywhere near long enough. Will order a pair today. Thanks for the info!

Every time I see this thread I think it says Womany-sized rider, UNTIE! And I just imagine letting that belt loose a bit on my too-tight jeans.

OH–THANK YOU for the jacket links ladies. It looks like the Ovation jacket is what the old-old 1824 jacket might’ve been. (judging by the colours) I had one, ADORED it, got great reviews when wearing it… and (gladly) shrunk way out of it. I did pass it on to another womanly rider  … I’ve been hankering for another hunter jacket. At that price I won’t feel guilty that I wear it to work/interviews/court/funerals more than on the horse. I have been eyeballing the Equissentials forEVER. What I really like about them–and am worried about–is the waistband. I have a pair of cotton leggings, I think yoga pants, that are my FAVES to ride in. This lovely wide waistband which feels flattering and supportive. BUT IS IT?? (flattering, that is?) For lessons, I have to tuck in my shirt :uhoh: And I’m afraid of that waistband… Is the equissentials material THICK enough too?

Then again, I suppose I’m probably going to end up with enough vests that I can take a year of lessons and never wear the same one twice…

The OBTco Oilskin vest from Cabelas is actually cut a little MORE close and fitted than the Grand Prix vest I got. It does have the elastic gather and snaps in the back too, the design is changed from years past. It’s a hair snug in the hips for me. BUT, is a lovely colour and Oilskin lasts forever. Lining is good wool flannel, so I suspect it might loosen/give a bit and be a better fit. I’m going to wear it to work and sit around in it for 10 hours to test that theory.

I do LOFF the quilted vest with collar from Cabelas, even if it’s a bit big. I wish it had back gathers, then it would be perfect. I have a waist… it’s the hips that are such an issue. :dead:
1. Ovation jacket:

I got the Ovation dressage coat - it’s quite nice. The one I got was 100% wool. Looks like they are extended their jacket selection, so you should be able to find a nice hunt coat. I’ve included a link to my friend’s tack store. She’s great to work with, and will order anything she can for you.

 1. Equissentials. The waist band is great. But, I don’t tuck my shirt in for lessons - only time I tuck is at shows (then I put my coat on ASAP) . I find the waist band is just fine, not restricting, not bothersome in any way - since you can have them custom made to your measurements, well, they’re just gonna fit. By the way, you can get them withh zippers, but I haven’t done it - they’re fine with the pull up (and it’s one less thing to worry about - zipper bulge or breaking). The French terry fabric is very safe, plenty thick enough - not revealing at all. They have a lighter weight summer fabric which I haven’t tried. In a swatch, the light weight fabric looked like it could be more revealing than one might desire, but I have not seen it made up into breeches.

I’m REALLY looking forward to getting my OBTco vest. Total vest geek!

I just ordered this exact coat on Friday from your friend’s tack store and am praying that it will fit for my first ever dressage show in March. (Yay!) Thanks so much for posting her info in an earlier thread - she was the only one who seemed to have the jacket in the size I needed. Plus, I like trying to do business through reliable and reputable people.

The boots? They’re completely custom, if you look under the description on the site, there is a box you can click for custom measurements, it’s very thorough!

Check it out!

We have more power than we realize

Ya’ll check TOD! They have “stately” sized Harry Hall breeches today!

Oh my. Who came up with the idea of making large-size breeches with a plaid a** ??? That can’t be flattering.

well, and the largest size is 36. :frowning: Without knowing if the HH’s these days really run ‘comfy’ sized… I’m afraid to order since TotD is no returns.

Glad I wasn’t the only one who thought that. I passed on those. The jackets were cute though!!

Woo hoo! They just came and I LOFF DEM! Very soft and supple. Fit perfectly. And, SURPRISE, there were two Dove heart-shaped chocolates tucked inside the package. Mmmmmmm

For those who ordered… Has anyone received their Ovation coat yet? How do you like it? Does it run small/large in comparison to the “other” brands?

What are the Ovation shirts like?

I don’t know about the shirts, but I have a Romf coolmax shirt that thankfully still fits me and my ample chest. As soon as my coat comes in, I will let you know!

On another note, I am DEVASTATED that when I tried to pull on my boots the other evening that they DID NOT FIT OVER MY CALF!!! (It has been a couple of years since I have worn them and I weigh less now than I did then!) My first schooling show is on March 11, and there is no way I can afford to fork over the dough for new boots right now. So, Middleburg Tack Exchange, here I come! If they don’t have anything, I will have to commit a huge faux pas and wear my paddock boots and half chaps…I can just hear my test score dropping point by point right now…

If it’s a schooling show, you should not loose points at all for half-chaps.

SHAME on them if you do!

Aw, come on…how snooty of a schooling show is it??

Try putting them on while laying on your back, legs in the air. Yes, it could also be for multi-tasking, but it makes a big diff!

AAAHhh…

Now, my question is–so I get my boots ON with this technique… will they ever come OFF???

Seriously, if they are that tight, how do you REMOVE them if you do get them on?

(I use the plastic bag thing, and talcum powder, and men’s support socks…

Do you have gussets in your boots? If you don’t, you probably have time to get them to a shoe repair shop and have them put a decent sized elastic gusset that might get them over your calf …

P.S. Glad that my friend was able to help with the jacket - I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH

Nursing + Huntcoat do not go well together. This coat used to fit at the weight I currently am, but does not now on top, where I am now “extra, extra womanly”). Hope the situation will change in 2 months, when I am going to my first show. Very frustrated.

Thanks, Gayla - plus a Western question

Gayla - I am SOOO excited! Going to order myself a pair of the Arete chaps for myself for my birthday…I have wanted a pair FOREVER, and now I can get some!
Ladies, another question…where in the world can we get nice WESTERN things? I know there are some custom makers on Ebay, and that people jazz up “normal” blazers with bling…but HobbyHorse’s styles just run too small. Would love some ideas! I show pleasure, halter and showmanship, and have been lucky to find a vest to wear with a white shirt and black jeans - but would love more options.
Happ riding!
Dee

Now I know why my friend told me that I MUST join the COTH board!

I will try ALL of these suggestions - I am positively popping with excitement that perhaps I may have found a solution thanks to all of you! Also, I received a PM from someone who may have a pair I could borrow - I just need to measure my calf with my breeches on and get back with her.

The gussets are an option, but I will be honest in saying that these are a pair of field boots that I don’t like much anyway (when I bought them, they fit in the calf but were too big in the foot making me look like a penguin!), so I hate to spend the $130-$150 that Journeymen’s and Outback Leather quoted me. BUT, I will do what I gotta do. Lord knows that I refuse to spend this kind of money on my street clothes! Regardless, I would love to find a decent pair this spring/summer before I hopefully get to do any PVDA rated shows later this year.

Thank you again!
