Womanly-sized riders, unite!

So, please dont take this the wrong way, but can we NOT talk about dieting here? I’m totally supportive of anyone who is trying to lose weight, but I, personally, have given up because I find that when I diet I gain weight, and when I don’t diet I maintain my current weight. This has been, until today, the one place I could talk about issues related to weight and not hear about how to lose it. It was refreshing.

I’m sorry, i feel like a jerk, but I needed to say this.

WOW WOW WOW

Thank you for this thread.

Great information. It was sorely needed!

I wasn’t turning this into a diet thread, I was merely saying I lost 35 lbs.

I completely understand what it’s like. I have NOT publicly addressed what I weigh, and 35 lbs is a drop in the ocean compared to where I need to be. I ride, and have been riding through the gains and losses. Yes, I agree, every diet I have ever been on has made me heavier each time. I have gained 115 lbs since I started “dieting”… I guess the ones who know me on this thread needed to know I was proud of what I have done up until now.

now back to our regularly scheduled thread…

Good for you, Everyequine! Really, truly.

Now, can we revisit Hispar boots? Coreene, do you still love yours? I’m thinking of getting some in case I ever get to show again, but they seem like they’d be way too tall. I just had my fiance measure me, and as I suspected, from the back of my knee to the floor when I’m in my socks is only about 16", and the Hispars appear to be 18 1/4" tall in my size, so I’m thinking that will be a problem. But width-wise, the X-Wide seems like it would be just right, assuming they run true to the size chart?

I don’t know that I like the chevron thing on the dress boots, so I was considering field boots, but I seem to recall that the zippers weren’t very good–did anyone just get them stitched up the back?

Also, how do the sizes and foot widths run? I wear anywhere from 8.5 to 10.5 depending on width, but in shoes that are wide enough usually a 9.

Thanks!!!

I have been secretly lurking on your thread and have found some shoe info very helpful! But…

Question:

Is there a “Stick-Figured/Body of a 12yr old Boy” Riders United club by chance? :sadsmile:I think some of us feel left out :wink:

Yes, I still love them. I never use the zippers when I put them on, only when I take them off. I use boot pulls to put 'em on. Of course, they are not Petries or Dehners, but for the price they can’t be beat.

I won’t be wearing them for a bit now, because - and forgive me if I am repeating myself in this thread, can’t remember - I had an Unplanned Dismount With Ankle Twist Pirouette, and it’s only been four weeks. I almost feels fine now, but my doctor and nurse pals say that I really need to wait the whole six weeks before dismounting onto that ankle. So for the first few weeks, it will be a Swede-O Tarsal Support inside the paddock boots (hey, if they are good enough for European soccer stars, they’re good enough for me!).

Feel free to start one.

I’m glad Coreen likes her Hispars. I’ve had mine for a year now and boy have they worn. They are really broken in, almost too much, but hey, I like tourture boots (stiff stiff stiff)

But like I said before, if you want a pair thats great for wearing every day, in the washrack, cleaning stalls, then they are the boots for you

Ouch, Coreene! I’m glad you’ll be back at it soon, though.

I want a pair of boots that fit, mostly. I have a pair of dearly beloved Dehners that I’ve had since I was seventeen, and, well, in the last few years I passed the point where I could painfully squeeze into them. They started out more or less painfully tight (well, close-fitting in cool weather over thin breeches, painful in hot weather over my show breeches), and, well, I’m not seventeen anymore. I need to send them back to Dehner to see if they can put an inch of width in with a wider strip in the rear (they do regularly do this, apparently). In the meantime, my half chaps are fine, mercifully, though if I’d known about Arete last year I’d’ve gotten ones generous enough to go over jeans…but if I ever get my silly OTTB to stay sound long enough to go to a show, I’d like to be prepared in case the Dehners haven’t gotten fixed yet.

He’s actually been good lately–I find riding him is fixing his back faster than working him on the longe did, oddly enough, since I was trying to avoid stressing his back by putting extra weight on it–and I have yet to take all the finicky measurements Dehner wants and actually ship the things off, so I thought I’d order some cheap boots that will kind of fit, in case once I do send them to Dehner it takes them months to do the re-fitting.

So, off to eBay I go.

boots that fit

I really appreciate all the info everyone! Cannot wait to have a pair of boots, actual tall boots that fit! OMG!!!

Thanks!

I’m shocked that no one has mentioned anything about tredstep half chaps. I have a really wide calf, but I’m also 5’1 so my legs are also really short. I bought Tredstep Elasticized half chaps from smartpak. They are great because they have soooo many sizes, you just pick out your calf size (mine are 17") and then the height size (15"). I love mine, and they aren’t loose at all in the ankle like some other “plus size” half chaps. They are around $100 but totally worth it.

I’m about to start showing again (first time in like 6 years) and I’m thinking about getting the Hispar boots since the calf seems large enough for me… i’m just worried about the height… any suggestions?

OK< Sarie, we need a link!! I never have found 1/2 chaps that are short enough, because the makers always think that taller= wider…like 16w/18h

Clothing manufacturers are funny, aren’t they? I wear the On Course Shapelys, which are PERFECT, except someone seems to think that big ladies have cankles. Or something. The ankles are very, very large and I have to creatively wrap the fabric in order to make it all fit properly.

Ah well, what can ya do?

Here ya go everyequine:

I love mine so so much. Enjoy!

So, I have a new favorite item of clothing… Assets. I got them at target, they are from the makers of spanx. They make me feel a lot less “on display” when I’m wearing tights or breeches, and they smooth out any problem areas one might have in the butt/thigh region.

I’ll definitely give those a shot! They look nice, and @$99.00, they are less than customs!

For half chaps - in sizes 1X-5X try Arete Equestrian. I have several pairs of their chaps and they fit beautifully. They are even cheaper than any other brand I know and they carry half-chaps that look like tall boots. www.aretesaddlery.com

For breeches - I wear Irideon Cadence Stretch Cord breeches. They come in all sizes up to 3X. All the major catalogues carry them and also the Irideon tights. Also, I just noticed Kerrits started making larger sizes and they now have some breeches/tights in 2X size. Check the Dover catalogue.

For tall boots - I still haven’t found any that fit my 19" calf. I have to go custom and hate every single pair I buy. Even with a billion measurements - the boots never seem to fit right.

For hunt coats/show shirts/dressage coats - I bought all of mine through 1824. I am very happy with their fit and quality although the shirts and jackets could be more fitted through the waist. I am not shaped like an apple and would like a more tailored look in larger sizes.

Ladies…

HEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP!!!

Please, I need your experience with a few different boots…

Anyone tried the new Dublin boots in XW? They say 16" for a 9.5/10. But no where does there say if there’s elastic by the zips or just zips.

How about Mountain Horse in the new models? Run true to the size charts? Narrow? wide?

I’m getting a wee bit desperate, and can try nothing on locally. :sigh:

Pintopiaffe… I have the Mountain Horse Sportive II boots and I love them. I bought a 9 wide (usally wear a 8.5) they dont have half sizes. I have a wide foot and these boots fit very comfy. My calf is 16+ inches and has more than enough room and there are several elastic gussets. The boots are a little boxy but sleek enough to show in. If money was not an issue I probally would have gone for Mt Horse High Caliber field boots, I think the wide goes to 17.5 inch calf. Good luck

pintopiaffe:

I’m going to try the Hispar boots, they have calf sizes up to lke 19" … Ive heard some good things about them… and I think they have a little better look than the mountain horse boots. You can get the “victory” hispar field boots from http://65.61.36.244/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=HRE&Category_Code=PSFADB or you can also get them off of ebay through the seller ehimalayas. The field boots zip up the back and then have a snap at the top. I know they also make a dressage boot with the same sizing. They are about $250.00 I’m going to get some here in the next few days. If you look back through this thread I think there was someone who loved theirs. Hope this helps!
