Wow, now this thread has GOT to make it into the favorite topics list: Aunt Esther paid a visit!

Do any of you know where to get good Coolmax-type T-shirts?
I actually shell out for the UnderArmour “heat gear” range. (UA never goes on sale.) Men’s t-shirsts, generally (they are cut rather loose) but the spaghetti strap women’s tanks work well for me, too. I do barn work in the capris. I don’t know how it differs, but I find it even more comfy (and less likely to hold barn stains or, uh, smells than CoolMax or other wicking stuff (although I do like CoolMax, too).

You bought breeches in what color?

Ladies,
I frequently hear complaints about the lack of breeches our size in “interesting” colors. I am frequently, in fact, the author of such complaints.

I recently visited horseloverz.com and ordered a pair of Harry Halls in “Aubergine”–which I presumed to be a dark, rather reddish purple, maybe even maroon. They arrived today, and I am sitting here typing this wearing breeches which are…lilac purple!

They’re nice breeches. Comfy. Cotton, stretchy, sizing as normal as breeches get (I wear Lane Bryant jeans in 22 and that’s fairly snug, and the HH 38s are comfy), zippered front pocket I like so much. 38 is the largest size, I think.

But, seriously? Can I go out in public with a big purple butt? I feel a wee bit like Barney, I gotta say.

So, now you know, for better of for worse, what color “aubergine” is in the minds of the HH designers. If I start seeing a bunch of other fat ladies in bright purple breeches, I’ll know who you are!:lol::lol::lol:

Don’t show me that, I’ll be tempted to buy and I’m already in trouble!

I say, if you’ve got it, swath it in purple and flaunt it.

Move over Barney!

I just bought some of the HH aubergine breeches! They might clash with Murphy (bright red chestnut) but should look nice with my dark bay mare. I bought her an ice pink saddle pad too!

I know this is a bit OT, but I figured since some of you actually sound like you know what you’re doing, I’d throw it out there.

So I want to lose weight. I’ve been advised to stay roughly on a 1400calorie diet and go to the gym and do lots of cardio.
However, my question is this, if I actively want to lose weight, approx. how much cardio would I have to do (assuming I go to the gym 4-5 times a week)

Back when I was doing a plan that was really specific about workouts (Body For Life), he had you do 20 minutes of interval training cardio 3x per week, and 3 sessions with weights per week (alternating upper and lower body).

I’m doing the Sonoma Diet and it’s really, really, really, really awesome. I highly, highly, highly recommend it!!! Easiest diet I’ve ever done, and I’ve done a few.

I have read that the magic number is 30 minutes at your target heart rate. Perhaps the gym has a personal trainer that can do an assessment of your physical condition and give you a plan?

And if I can add something else, break your meals up into several mini meals. It keeps your metabolism revved up and you are less likely to make “poor choices” when you are not hungry.

Thanks. I was thinking 30 minutes as well.
I should actually ask if the gym has a personal trainer 9i’m pretty darn sure it does!) maybe I’ll take advantage of that

Hey, my belt from VTO Saddlery arrived today - I love it! Thanks for the link a page or two back!

Hunt coat part 3

Hi Ladies, Okay so…Criss was right about the 1824 size 30 coat is very large, tried it on and sent it back the same day. Still waiting for refund tho.
Went to local tack store and got the snub aka…Oh I’m not sure we have something that large. but we can check… as self esteem plummets…My trainer who was with me knew the owner and she went to talk to him and he got on the phone called Lakeshire and ordered me 2 coats size 26 and 28 to try…boy then did I get attention. Unfortunately when I called to check on them I got the snotty attitude and this quote “what size did you order, dear” (me) a size 26 and 28 “Oh thats a very unusual size” Ughhhhhhhh I wanted to scream! Luckily the owner called me back and said he would do whatever it takes to get me a coat. Do these people actually know how they sound?

Criss what size 1824 coat did you eventually settle with? I would be ever greatfull for the info.

Congrats twinkltoz!

Thanks for letting me vent.

I still haven’t. As in, I’ve still got one that’s too big (a 26 I think?) and haven’t decided whether to take it in or just return it and be done with it (since the next size smaller would probably be too small somewhere crucial, thoguh I guess it may be worth a try…). It’s kind of shapeless as well, and I’m not, so what I really need is to get the friggin’ sewing machine working and make a coat with a proper waist. Now, why doesn’t Pikeur just make coats in our size? Arghhhhh…

I traded my three pair of breeches/tights that were too small for one pair of Pytchleys (originally $150 and the girl got them on clearance for $90 but they didn’t fit her). Normally I won’t even BREATHE on $150 breeches for fear of smudging them and having to buy them! Anyway, I got them home and tried them on…and they’re too narrow in the calf. Way. And they’re knee patches! sigh Oh well, at least I’m down to one pair I can’t wear instead of three.

I say, if you’ve got it, swath it in purple and flaunt it. ;)
This completely cracked me up. I did do it, btw, and no one seemed to be looking at me funny. Well, not that I could see anyway. Although, come to think of it, the time when they were looking at me the funniest was probably when my back was turned…:lol::lol::lol:

 last night at the barn I wore my kerrits tights that have rose/black houndstooth on the thighs with the shirt I wore to work (stripes of various shades of blue and white) with my leapard print gloves.

Things that piss me off in stores are things I will always address with a manager. In this case, I would have asked for the owner and spoken to the owner and employee at the same time, and point out that the 'tude is enough to drive people away.

I never understand why so many people who work in tack stores have their heads wodged so firmly up their own asses. I worked in one in college and, when we had one at our barn, would help out my friend the owner. People who are coming into tack stores to buy are generally not spending only five dollars, and no matter what their size, they do not deserve to be shit upon by the staff.

I have always heard 30 minutes or more a day. But, recently, Dr. Sanje Gupta on CNN (I know I butchered the spelling on that, LOL) says that you need 60 to 90 minutes a day of exercise to really lose weight. I guess I need to get huffin’!

The important thing is to burn more calories than you eat…that’s all it comes down to. If you’re on a low-calorie diet and you’re doing a lot of exercise, you’ll lose weight. The trick is finding a program that you can live with.

Jenny Craig paired with riding walking biking and swimming has removed 35 lbs since Dec. I thought these pounds were here forever!! I think without the exercise, not as much would come off. I still have a long way to go, but I’ll always be a shapely!!
