Womanly-sized riders, unite!

Coreene…

…have your boots come yet? I can’t wait to hear how they look/fit!

My Tallyho boots should be arriving any day now.

The Neo-Classic style is synthetic suede. The rest of the styles are real suede or smooth leather.

There’s no real way to “shrink” them, unless you want to try washing them in hot water (which I really would not recommend, lol). You can take them to a boot/shoe repair shop and then can use the back seam to make them smaller. The charge for that should only be around $10, or less.

On a side note. http://www.aretesaddlery.com has free shipping right now on orders of $125 of more ;).

How did they work out? Nice quality? Good fit? I’ll be in the market for new boots next year, so I’m shopping around now.

Where did you get the boots?

Anyone get their boots yet?

edit

Don’t know if anyone mentioned them or not but Irideon makes breeches up to 3X! They are amazingly comfortable, look great, and are nice and cool in the summer. I got a pair this summer and will be getting more when funds allow. I didn’t show in any others this summer except a pair of DevonAire’s under my show chaps for western pleasure. Hee hee.

As for boots I got a pair of Nittany Boots on ebay for under a hundred bucks b/c the box was busted. THEY FIT GREAT and they have lots of calf widths including stuff for those of us who have muscles on their lower legs.

Did I mention I love my Irideon breeches?

For larger hunt coats… haven’t tried their stuff but the jackets look nice… Curvy Cowgirl on eBay. They have some lovely modern fabrics and aren’t that outrageously priced, about half of what a Grand Prix coat would cost.

Hi–I’m new here and I really am glad to have read the tips about Irideon breeches and tights. I found this forum through a Google search for XL riding wear. I’ve seen both Irideon and Boink plus-sizes in catalogues and had thought about ordering maybe a pair of each–now that I’ve read the posts here it’s really helpful to know that I may need to order at least the Irideon a couple of sizes larger than I usually wear. I should’ve suspected as much, seeing as how in some catalogues XL means a size 14, but it was nice to actually read about the experiences real riders have had with these brands.
I’ve tried Kerrits–the XL fits well enough but is really too tight to wear out in public, and since Devonaire fits better for almost half the price, I didn’t buy the Kerrits I tried.
I like this forum and this site!

Yay, I brought in a new member! Welcome

Thanks, twnkltoz!

Coreene, I too want to hear about your boots when they arrive.

I wore my Irideons for the first time the other day. I bought them last winter, but never got to wear them. I’m not sure which model they are – maybe the 3-season breech? They are kind of corded on the outside, and soft on the inside. Pretty comfy, but I did have to pack myself into them. It was a cold day (which is why I wore them), and they were not as warm as my Boink breeches (which are stretchy outside and fleecy inside – very nice in the winter). I strained my back after I put the breeches on and didn’t get to ride in them, but they looked lovely with my black vest and white turtleneck!

As for sizing, I wear a size 1X in pants (when they are sized 1X-2X-3X), and I had to buy a size 3X in the Irideon full seats. How humiliating. I don’t know if everybody has this sizing problem, or it’s just me.

Also, Outback (a clothing company) makes the nice quilted vests (like a lot of the dressage riders wear) up to size XXL. They fit even my very well-endowed upper body, and are long enough to cover my stomach. They look good, and are comfortable enough to ride in.

I was looking at the Irideon web site the other day, and noticed that they make some of their tops and more bottoms up to size 3X now. I really need to write them a letter and thank them for making riding clothing in larger sizes.

It’s not just you. I had the exact same problem - buying 3X was a verrry very hard thing to do…but they’re SO nice in every other way, that I got over it quickly.

Another vote for the Irideons (how do you pronounce Irideon anyway?) I just got another pair of the corded ones this year which I love to death. You’re right they do run a little on the tight side, but I have found the corded “Cadence” breeches to fit better than the shiny ones. If I ever get another pair of the shiny ones I definitely would get them a size larger than the ones I have.

I also noticed that Irideons are contoured a little like they were designed for one set of body proportions. Like they are based on the assumption that your knee will be in a certain location in relation to the rest of your leg and that you have a relatively flat ass (maybe a man designed them:lol:). Has anyone else noticed this? After several wearings they do “break in” and start to be more wearable, and then they are so comfy it really does not matter.

I love my Boinks too! Boinks seem to be more realistically sized than Irideons. Their XL size is what I consider a True Extra Large. That means anything I can’t get my extra large butt into is not “truly” XL! And for us “Stump Women”, Boink even carries a “true” XLP size.

Check their website: www.boinkcatalog.com for all the size options. They seem to have something for everyone.

I bet the more of us who order them, and tell about it here, the easier it will be for all of us to do it next time. I felt embarrassed and also a little intimidated when I dialed Dover to ask about the fit of the Irideon and Boink tights, but the rep was very nice indeed and gave me good tips on the fit of each make, even taking time to check about the Boink sizing. I was told that the Irideons do run small, which goes with what you said, ThreeHorseNight.

Apparently Irideon is pronounced “ih-RID-ee-uhn.” (Although now I look at the word, it looks like “I ride on.” I like that.)

I have a pair of the Tally-Ho customs from eBay and they are beautiful. They did a great job fitting my 17" calves and thick ankles.

I did have 2 complaints.
#1 - They stamped a big logo into the leather at the top of each boot. Can you say “Tacky”.
#2 - The calf does not smoothly flow into the throat of the boot. There is a bump/point. My local boot guy was able to smooth it out. I did not send them back due to time constraints.

While I’m not womanly sized (as described herein) I thought I’d offer up a comment about the nittany boots- my brown cubbing boots are nittany and they’re lovely. Not vogels, to be sure, but very nice for the price and well fitting.

I can’t speak to the quality of the fit for an extremely odd size, though. I needed a shorter height but I have size 6 feet and 13" calves so that was the easy part. You could always give them a call!

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one who is embarassed to order size 3X breeches! I don’t think I could actually bring myself to go into my local tack store and ask them to order them for me! I prefer to buy them online anonymously. I do think that we all need to write a letter to Irideon (which I think is a division of Toklat) thanking them profusely for making larger-sized breeches, but pointed out the fit issue. My sample size is small – the full-seat winter windproof breeches – I haven’t tried any other models, so I don’t know if the sizing would be more true in other models.

I always thought Irideon was “ih-RID-ee-uhn,”; the I Ride On never occured to me, but I like it too!

I got some Dublin microfiber side zip (knee patch) breeches in the mail from Dover yesterday…I ordered a size bigger than I normally get because that’s the size they have on clearance (38L)…they FIT!!! Slightly roomy in the waist (not as roomy as I’d like considering I wish I wore a smaller size…), fit nicely over my enormous calves. The best part was, they retail for over $100, but they were on clearance for $29!!! There are 2 pair left there I think, if anyone wants them! I got two, and I have a pair of white full seats on the way–hope they also fit.
