Whew. It’s nice to see this thread. I thought I was the only one with fit issues! I’m 5’9"-5’10", and I normally wear a size 18. I learned very, very quickly that the saddleseat clothes one can buy from World Champion Horse Equipment or the National Bridle Shop are made wayyyy too small. The plus sizes only go up to a 24, which wouldn’t be a problem if the clothes were true to size. Like I said, in normal clothes, I’m a size 18. I can’t even button a size 24 jacket! (Wide shoulders, big chest, and not-so-small tummy.) It’s embarrassing, especially when I know that I’m not REALLY a size 26! I can’t wear the jods, either, though, so I guess it’s ok. Rolls eyes
All my clothes have to be made for me. I hate it. I can manage to fit into a size 24 shirt and a size 24 vest (which was way too short, but it really didn’t matter that much since I put a coat on top of it). I think if you’re going to sell a size 24 that’s really a size 16, you should just call it a damn size 16 and not get everyone’s hopes up!
Edited to add–Western clothes tend to be more true to size, but you hardly ever find anything other than ugly, plain button-up shirts in plus sizes. I have a lovely black leather vest in a size 3x, though. It’s plenty big enough, but it doesn’t even reach the bottom of my ribcage! You’d think that someone who designs these things would realize that if they’re going to make something in a 3x, it should probably be longer than the same article of clothing in size XS. But what do I know, right? It’s my own fault for having big boobies!
