Womanly-sized riders, unite!

Did you dare??

I’ll give a Kerrits size comparison… I am sitting here in my Ebay snared Kerrits tights. The old fashioned kind with the hideous, yet oddly endearing herringbone.

First of all, in the 2x, the herringbone is WAY more flattering. The front panel is flat/vertical/straight, rather than being a ‘reverse full seat’ in front. The back side still has the full-seat-look.

The 2X is just right. Definitely couldn’t fit any smaller, but am happy for the drawstring as I hope to continue shrinking. The non-herringbone fabric is worrysome–VERY thin. Do they really stand up? The ankles are slightly annoyingly tight, and the knees are just-barely big enough.

So, I wear a comfortable/roomy 36 in Cotton Naturals Shapely’s, a 2x in Irideon and a 2x now in Kerrits. Street clothes, a loose 18 in Lee Riders jeans or slacks–16 still too tight.

Hope that helps someone whose looking. I know it’s always really helpful to me to hear comparisons, because sizing is soooo variable.

Now, can someone tell me how the cargo tights compare to the regular tights?

Unfortunately at the moment my days of riding in cheapo cotton/lycra leggings are at an end for now… the saddle I’m riding in for now is slicker than snot on a doorknob. Real breeks with KNEEPATCHES make a really big difference. I’m almost thinking of springing for Dressage patch Equissentials for Christmas. We’ll see. Hay and gas are too high now. My Ebay deal is if I sell something, I can buy something. (And the Ebay gods are not smiling upon me. The damn saddle NEEDS to go. Bidding war when I bought it. :uhoh: )

OMG… ME TOO!!!

Getting the darn saddle was a miracle… selling the thing… impossible. What gives??? I really need to get rid of the old one, to pay for the new, custom (read $$$$$) one. Arrggghh!

I’ve seen some NICE saddles go for a song recently… is there a “season” for selling saddles, maybe??

Now, this is very interesting. I’ve never tried on the older Kerrits, just the cargo tights, and the 2x was way too loose on me, because the fabric has so much give. The 2x Irideons fit and are a little snug but OK, while the 3X Irideons are really big in the seat (except for the Irideon Windpro, which is really tight in the 2X). In the Cotton Naturals, I need a really big size (like a size 40) and they just fit odd. Size 18 jeans sometimes fit and sometimes, depends on the brand and cut. I think you and I are shaped very differently, so maybe that’s why you can wear a smaller size in the Cotton Naturals. Your waist must be much smaller than mine!

I too wondered what the XL in the Kerrits cargo tights would be like. If they don’t fit, you could probably sell them on ebay and at least get your money back.

HELP! I need super stretch half chaps!! Anyone??

Okay womenly women… I need your help!

(and yes, I’ve searched through this thread, but I need some clarity)

I desperately need some new half chaps. Mine have gone missing after a major horse show - there’s no telling where they’ve gone off too - I’m still finding things a week later.

I have freakishly large calves, and long, long legs - so this is no easy feat.

Can someone share their experience with half chaps and point me in the direction of those that s-t-r-e-t-c-h generously beyond what the size charts show??

My old ones were this awesome neoprene/leather material from JustChaps UK, and I could order those again, but it will take forever to get them. Hopefully y’all can point me to something I can get quickly!

Thanks in advance!!!

Honey, go to Arete saddlery…my calves are 19.5" and I don’t wear the largest size.

Okay, I should have mentioned that I HAVE some of those…and I hate them. They are way way way too roomy around the ankles… like I’m wearing bags on my legs (LOL).

I was (am) really hoping that maybe the TredStep or Mountain Horse lines stretch stretch stretch… but I don’t want to fork over the big bucks until I have a better idea.

(but thanks for the tip, anyway!)

Boots for womanly sized riders
We already wrote about what we’d like the manufacturers to know (not that we did anything about it, but it’s nice to vent, isn’t it?)…now lets talk about the manufacturers we DON’T hate! What brands do you like? Does anyone make clothes that fit a 19" calf and 36" and above waists?

I have some tuffriders, don’t know the model but they’re kind of corded and have knee patches. I like them a lot, although they were a bit warm for summer. I also wear Devonaire tights from Stateline. Country Supply’s tights and On Course summer weight full seat breeches don’t fit over my calves. I have some Ariats, not sure of the model but they retail for about $89, and they BARELY fit…I can show in them, but it’s not fun!

What’ve you got? I need to get a dressage outfit!
I recommend custom Vogel boots!!! You don’t have to get the baby French Calf - you can save money by getting the French calf, or better yet, the domestic leather. Mine are twelve years old, and still going strong. They are the best feeling things that I put on, and that includes any shoes or boots in my closet. They are fantastic quality and feel!!! Save up and get them!! Just make sure that the person who measures you knows what they are doing!!

HoneyDoozy, get thee to a cobbler! Your local shoe guy should be able to custom up your current half-chaps for cheap.

In the Cotton Naturals, I need a really big size (like a size 40) and they just fit odd.

CN shapeley’s are the key for me. Waist is somewhere between 34 &36 now, (need a belt on the 36’s, but don’t think I’m into the 34’s yet) HOWEVER, freakishly huge and floppy seat and thighs. I’ve never, ever gotten a pair of fullseats to fit right. And forget ‘normal’ breeks in size 36, even if I can find them, I usually can’t get them over my thigh to see if the waist would fit.

I’m just worried about any of the ‘flowrise’ stuff. I have a huge ‘apron’ belly under that nicely nipping waist… I just can’t see how anything that doesn’t sit inbetween the rolls at my waist could possibly do ANYTHING except produce muffin top. :dead:

I have 3 pairs of the Kerrits with the “flowrise”/supposedly non-rolling waistband, and lemme tell ya…it rolls. It annoys the heck out of me, too. But wait…it doesn’t roll on the outside, necessarily. The elastic rolls up INSIDE the seam, so you’ve got this wide elastic that has doubled up inside the nice wide waistband. :sigh: Other than that, I really like the style and comfort of them.

OOH–I know exactly what you mean. I HATE that! One of my favorite pairs of leggings started doing that. It’s awful. How tough would it be for them to tack the elastic on both edges, ya know?

Thanks for that. Guess I’ll avoid the cargos.

I really LOFF the Irideon Cadence Cords. It’s just the $$. :frowning:

Need Childrens Coat

I went to Hickory Nut Horse, but they do not have the plus jackets listed. Any other thoughts?

Need Children’s plus or ladies??

If you are looking for children’s coats - go to www.theshowkid.com - check it out and call if you don’t see what you are looking for, they are very nice.

If you are looking for ladies coats, plus or otherwise, you must check out www.thecollectiononlinestore.com - I have gotten a couple of coats now and breeches, free shipping and a very nice gal runs it, Robin.

breeches for pear shaped riders

I’ve read many pages in this thread but I don’t think I’ve come across this answer anywhere. What are the best breeches for a pear shaped rider? And what size should I get? I can wear an 18-20 in street clothes to fit my waist BUT I have to wear like a size 22 to fit my bottom half. So I usually end up having to have the waist of my jeans altered. I would like a pair of the breeches that you can have custom made (I can’t remember the name right off hand) but at this time I can’t afford to spend that much). I always ride in jeans and when I was riding western that wasn’t a problem but know that I’m riding English it’s taking it’s toll on my saddle. Thanks for the help!

I’m a pear… same size references, and I have all kinds of problems with clothes - you have my complete sympathy!!

I normally ride in Irideon Cadence stretch - full seats - 2x or 3x (alternating between SNUG and roomy, but nice). I love the stretch and they don’t gap at the waist.

I also have (and like) the On Course Naturals Shapelys… these are stretchy too, and have like 5 extra inches in the hips. The fabric is a soft cotton/lycra kind of material and it’s okay… but the Irideons are totally my first choice, always.

HUGE VEST ALERT LADIES!!!

I have just come from my local WallyWorld, and inside found a really fairly amazing vest.

Nylon shell, in a semi-flattering quilt/cut, polarfleecey lining… for NINE BUCKS. Plus through 3X for ELEVEN DOLLARS!!!

The cut is very cute and flattering–hip length in front, a little lower behind, in REALLY COOL COLOURS TOO!!!

Seriously. After 30 years of coveting I have a couple of nice clinic vests, but for $9 I can pick up a couple of these and not be afraid to WEAR them daily!

YAY!
(editing to add, I tried on, but have NOT purchased as of yet… I have a vest moratorium until I SELL some of the ones I’ve shrunk out of. I went back to the rack THREE TIMES to peruse the pretty plum, lovely hunter green and classic black… but I left without. Hopefully I’ll be back SOOOOON!!! )

I decided to skip the Kerritts cargos. Oh well, I’ve got several pair of tights right now!

Ooh Ooh! You need Arete chaps. They have tall sizes and go up to 4xl, which fit my huge 19.5" calves nicely! lol Actually, mine are the 3X size ;). I have a pair of Classics (standard accordian style) and Olympians (interesting unique style). Both stretch nicely, but the Olympians are definitely taller in the regular height. Both come in Tall heights.

http://www.aretesaddlery.com

Which ones do you have? Neither of mine are baggy around my ankles.

I tried Ariat (the suede accordian style) in the XL and they didn’t stretch enough for me. The XL size would likely fit someone with an 18.5" calf nicely, but not anything larger.
