OVATION Half Chap Alert!
I went to one of our local tack shops today and tried on some ovation half chaps, just for kicks! THEY FIT! I got an XL, and I measure about a 18.5-19’’ calf when wearing breeches. They seem to be good quality, and are only $40!
Just an FYI for everyone!
(p.s. if anyone buys them, they will be tuff to put on at first, but they stretch incredibly far!)
Has anyone tried the Kelly and Katrina full seat breeches listed in SmartPak? Do they run small or large?
anti-lumpy breeches?
I can’t find the postings that had advice to help with the “orange peel”/lumpy thigh effect. LOL :uhoh:
I’m planning on getting the SmartSlims for underneath but also would like to know which brands/styles of breeches you guys recommend for that problem??? (In size 38/40ish, I think…Shapelys? Figurefit?)
I haven’t shown in about 5 years am planning my 1st one in October…maybe earlier! I tried on some of my old breeches and WOW, scary! My old favorite pair fit (a little tight) & helped with the lumpy issue but of course the dk grey doesn’t match my new chocolate brown hunt coat. Any my beautiful brand new, tan, soft, cotton breeches I’ve never worn had major “lumpiness” issues…so sad (they were purchased pre-baby days).
Hey Ladies!! I just found a post on Bits and Barter for Vogels!! She also has hunt coats, and breeches! and no, they are not mine- so I can post this link.
This one’s for the breeches, coats and shirts.

For breeches with low levels of lumps, I like the thick cotton material - it covers very well!
thecollectiononline has show shirts on sale right now. Some as low as $25.

Just be careful as I tried to order one and several days later got a refund with a note saying their webmaster was out of town and those shirts (that I tried to buy) were sold out and they apparently had no way to update the site to reflect this without the webmaster around.
I mean, got a refund so I’m not badmouthing them just…I guess at this point I wouldn’t necessarily count on them to be my go-to place for a shirt I really needed. Luckily I was only buying because I liked the look of the shirt, they had it in my size, and it was a very good price.

Do you know of any specific styles/brands. There aren’t any tack shops in my area to be able to try them on first, so I’d be ordering over the internet.

XL half chaps! (:
Girls, I have had the worst time finding a pair of Real Breeches–had some On Course Shapelys (bought used and cheap) that fit like they were made for me but waaay too short (I own no tall boots) and they just aggravated the heck out of me so I gave them away to a short legged friend. I have plenty of tights (Kerrits) but although some of their tights fit my small waist, ultra large behind just fine others do not, or the material is yuck. I’ve been trying on breeches in every tack store I encounter trying to find something that would work. I take anywhere from a 16 misses to a 20 Womens in pants depending on how they are cut. Since the latest rage even in larger sizes seems to be the dreaded Lo rise, I have been out of luck.
Until yesterday, when I spotted a pair of 36 L MENS breeches, Royal Highness. Tried them on, they were absolutely perfect, waist came to my waist, crotch was where it should be, butt was covered adequately even when I bent over, and ankles, God help me, reached my darn ankles. I am in heaven.
At 69 bucks, I felt I got a bargain. The material is heavy for my climate (middle GA) so I wont wear them except in cold weather.
jeans
If any of you gals are lookin’ for new jeans, I highly recommend both the Levi’s 529s ("curvy boot cut) & the Lee “slender secret bootcut.”
I haven’t looked so good in jeans for years.
I normally need Longs in anything, but the Medium length in either style is dragging on the ground.
I did the mid-rise in the Levis. It hit me just below the natural waist. They both seem to hold in the muffin top. :D:D
JCPenney has them on sale right now.
Stretchy enough that you could ride comfortably in them, should you like to ride in jeans.
Anyone see the pair of black Equissentials on ebay? size 38! If I needed them, I wouldn’t have said anything. they sound like a deal.

I noticed that Fleet Farm had some lovely vests in womens sides in stock for fall/winter for $30. I’m eyeballing a very pale blue that I think would look sharp with the bay mare. though I already have a pretty large vest collection.
Can you have too many vests??
What I need is some new good base layer parts and half chaps, so off to search this thread!
Ok all you Mountain Horse Rimfrost II tall boot wearers, tell me… just how wide is the calf anyway? I know what the size charts “says” but I want to hear from actual Womanly Women Riders. Thanks!
chocomare-
My calf is 17.5in with breeches they were a bit snug but are perfect once I replaced both zippers(okay one is slilightly wider as i used 2 different shoe shops).
My suggestion replace zippers as soon as you get them! the zippers are horrible! mine bent then snapped!
ChocoMare, the new Mountain Horse winter tall styles come with a wicked wide calf. I think I saw the measurements in the Dover catalog, but it’s not on the website (nor does the website list the x-wide calf option).
I am so excited! I have been invited to go hunting with several friends this fall. I haven’t shown for years and unfortunately none of my stuff fits any longer. In my search for stuff to wear hunting I came upon two great sites with plus sizes. One is Maryland Saddlery, and the other is the English Habit. I ordered a black wool jacket that was on sale and got an additional 5% off for being a new customer(The English Habit) They had a variety of styles of coats including a wool melton and dressage styles most up to at least 26, a few up to 28.
They also had some breeches and boots. Maryland Saddlery had a nice selection of rat catchers some up to size 50, they also had show coats, breeches and boots. I purchased a white rat catcher from them. Yay! Now all I need is boots, but am scoping out the Mountain Horse Richmond High Riders. From the size chart I should be able to wear their wide calf size. Yay!!!

Yeah, I should be able to wear them, too, according to the size chart. But when I went to Dover to try them on…not even close! They were a full inch or inch-and-a-half from closing. The lady at the store took out her tape measure and everything because she thought there was no WAY the size chart could be off by so much…but lo and behold! It was. My calf measurement was easily within the width of the boot on the chart, but it did not even remotely fit.
Hope you have better luck!
