OT, but I love watching racing from Woodbine. Can’t wait until April!
AKA Madam Crunch? She used to be on Bighorse. Loved her to death. I haven’t “spoken” to her in years.
Hi, my name is Donna and am new to this forum. I trained racehorse for many years before I got married as Donna Gowdy.
In January I married thoroughbred trainer Dallas Keen. Due to Texas horse racing rules we can not both run horses in Texas without keeping separate books, not sharing any owner interests of horses, no shared owners or partnerships, etc. We now run everything in Dallas’ name but I am involved in every aspect of training at the tracks as well as manage our breeding farm in Burleson, Texas. In addition to breeding thoroughbreds we also run an adoption and rescue facility that specializes in aid to horses off the racetrack. After rehab most horses are retrained as riding horses while others are found companion homes. Dallas and I have recently started training horses for totally bridle-less riding. You can see some examples on our website.
I would be very happy to help you in your search for information about women in the horse racing industry. There are many stories to be told on the backside of the racetrack about the hard working trainers, assistant trainers, gallop girls, and even hot-walkers. They all struggle trying to balance raising kids, taking care of families, and working 7 days a week. A constant juggling act.
When you have time check out our website that I designed. Probably more than most people want to know but I have fun adding info to it. Go to www.dallaskeen.com to view the website. We also have live web cameras at the track and at the farm that everyone is invited to watch. During foaling season you can actually watch mares as they foal if you are patient.
Anyway, If you are still interested in searching for info about ladies in racing or in other aspects of horse training I will be glad to work with you in any way I can.
Donna
Thanks Donna. I will be in touch.
I looked into the Texas TB Assoc BB and saw your website… pretty cool having bridle-less trainer/outrider ponies on the track! Certainly not something you see everyday!
Going to Sam Houston Friday to photograph works. Very excited to get started!

My assistants name is Daisy, she rides all…
Kathy Walsh is training a filly we bred. She is located in Southern Cal.
She has had a few stakes winners this year, including Georgie Boy G1SW by Tribal Rule. Here is her bio and you can find many other bios on this clink

By the way Shelly Riley (A trainer I use to work for) hasn’t been around since the early 90’s…she left the country, isn’t even into horses from what I hear. I think she is writing.
Hey, did you make it to the track? I saw a girl taking picutres last week down by the winners circle. Did you have any luck with some of the names I gave you?
Hey,
Yes, that was me. You should have come down and introduced yourself! I met up with alexbrown4, who exercise rides there, but have yet to meet anybody else. I keep wanting to go back to the track and take more pics but with the holidays/family committments and icky weather (no sun makes for pics too dark!), I haven’t gotten back yet. But am thinking about Dec 30 and Jan 1 mornings the weather/sun will cooperate. I am back to work on Jan 3, so after that it will be weekends only.
If you see me, come say hello!
