Haha–I grew up in North Carolina and Utah, and went to college in MN. My roommate lent out my toolbox without telling me, and I went looking for it, but couldn’t find it.

While it’s true that two "L"s in Spanish are pronouced like a “Y”…there are many words that we don’t follow that rule with. Examples: Amarillo, Armadillo. Thus, I say Grew-La. :lol:

Just leave out the third syllable (lay) and you’ve got it! Yoo-ka-lee. I’ve spoken to them on the phone so I know how they pronounce it. Same for Schleese. They say Schlay-suh.
“fjord” is pronounced more like “fyord” than “fee-ord” (i.e., don’t draw out the “fee” sound; just “fyord”, “yord” with an f in front of it).
I’ve heard Akhal-Teke pronounced ACK’l TECKee (could be AHK’l TECKee, too, I guess).

I pronounce “Ariat” as I do “lariat”–not Air-ee-yacht. I’ve never heard a roper speak of a lair-ee-yacht (but then everyone I know calls it a lasso).
“Hanoverian” has an “h” sound–it starts with “h.”
Do you pronounce “Friesian” “free-zh’n” or “free-zee-AHN”? I pronounce it the first way.
