Working Student

Hello! Just had a super quick question regarding becoming a working student. I know this has been much discussed on here and I have searched through other topics regarding this but I couldn’t seem to find the answer, so I figured I would just make a new post.

How would one go about contacting barns about their working student positions? Is it best to email, telephone, or have your trainer contact the other barn? If you worked as a working student, how did you contact your barn for the position?

Do you think being a working student is worth it? Does it help with a career in show jumping?

I am very interested in becoming a working student and would love to hear some of your opinions and experiences. Thank you!

Absolutely. I emailed one barn (the best in my area, in my opinion) & they emailed back to set up an interview.

You can go as far as your work ethic will take you. It also takes the right trainer to believe in you. I got to show nice horses & ride even nicer ones at home. I got to clinic with Olympian’s and now, as an amateur, have a wonderful foundation. All thanks to someone who took me in as a working student and put in the time with me.

Good luck.
