Working Students in the UK, anyone have experience or tips?

I am looking for advice on becoming a working student or becoming employed in the UK.

Does anyone have experience or advice they can share on visas, how they got their position, and etc?

might post this question on Horse & Hound

I worked in Ireland and Scotland mind you this was 10 years ago. I got both jobs on yardandgroom.com.

I’m Canadian and was able to get a job on a working holiday visa which is good for up to 2 years and you can work while on it.

What are your long term riding and working goals? That will help direct you what type of position to look for.

Follow the major players on social media. They’ll often advertise when they are looking. I would contact those who interest you and go from there! Most of the big names, especially the Internationals, are familiar with visa etc processes

Eventing largely stops in UK from now until March so there are not many eventing jobs being advertised. It is probably easier to look in the new year.

One place to look for employment is the British Grooms Association website www.britishgrooms.org which has a jobs section. As I understand, it is the employers job to obtain work permits.

Harry Meade does have a section on his webpage about working for him.

Otherwise look up “event riders in Gloucestershire” “event riders in Wiltshire”, Hampshire etc and see who comes up. A lot of jobs are word of mouth.
