For those not watching the livestream, you can keep up with the GP results here.
What do the X and II on the cooler represent?
Sad to say that i just read that Ingrid removed her horse from the freestyle.
Heartbreaking!
When watching, has anyone else noticed that the stands are virtually empty? Even for the jumping. It’s weird and sad to me.
Not sure if it was for an actual physical reason or to protect him from overstimulation in that atmosphere. I saw a report about the warm-up ring that said he was QUITE interested in the mares. It could be they want to avoid the possibility of him injuring himself or embarrassing his connections by being unable to turn off the “breeding stallion” part of his mind and getting so distracted in the warm-up that he totally flubs his freestyle routine. Both he and Hermes were apparently overwhelmed by their hormones, but the competition season is just getting underway in Europe, so they will have lots more opportunities to go down centerline in the coming months.
I think the location has more to do with why the stands are empty. The stands were packed when it was in Vegas.
It might also be that the tickets are quite expensive (quite a bit more than Vegas, I’ve heard) …possibly not many less committed/casual attendees?
I went last time it was in Omaha. Had the opportunity to go this week. There was nothing really to do around the venue, and tickets were really expensive, so we passed. Hope to next time it’s in Las Vegas, whenever that is
I didn’t check that carefully, but it looked to me like maybe you could only buy tickets for the whole thing? Not just one day or one performance at a time?
That might have discouraged some people who could have stopped in otherwise.
I think the all session dressage pass was 600. If I’m spending the money on air, hotels, etc…we get the all session jumping too. Especially in Omaha, because other than the show, we did nothing. In Las Vegas we did a show, walked around the hotels, etc
I paid as much for 1 dressage session this year as I did for my all dressage sessions tickets in 2017, and I bought in the relatively “inexpensive” area. In 2017 I inexpensively picked up tickets to all of the jumper events, like well <$100 to be seated in like, row 6. This year, the cheapest we could get from the box office was 128. That’s why our group didn’t buy tickets for more events.
In 2017, there was a lot more shopping and seemingly more to do. This year, meh. I’m glad we are headed home tomorrow morning.
Agreed. My daughter and I went the last time it was in Omaha. This time not only were the ticket packages doubled but just getting there even from a major airport was significantly more expensive this time around and to where? I found Omaha pleasant when we were there for the previous World Cup and I’ve been there for business more than once; so, to spend all that money on something we can eventually see online (food and drink to watch together also far less expensive at home, better weather… just wasn’t worth it to us.
This pic was from the freestyle. The stands are not even half full. Sad, but they would have done better at half the price and triple the spectators
The stands were packed in 2017 in Omaha. The tickets were just too expensive for me to justify the cost. I live in Idaho. Anywhere in the U.S. is going to be travel for me. Plane tickets and a hotel I could have handed. Ticket prices? Not so much.
