Anyone going this weekend to the driving at the WEGs? Wondering about parking, etc.

No, but will be checking things out on websites. Hoping for decent driving weather for the competitions. Finally raining here, we can use it but they don’t need it.

we did the weg parking yesterday, today we did bootleg parking off Pea Ridge and plan to do that for the rest of the week. So far Saturday does not look optimal for marathon, but it is what it is. I’m SO happy they reworked the schedule so schedules for medals for jumping and cones do not overlap. I’d like to think it was my sharply worded emails, but I’m not kidding myself.

If you see a redhead in a fjord hat tomorrow it might be me.

right about now a little rain wouldn’t hurt. So far I’ve seen about 4 puddles post florence. It was rock hard when I was up here for an HDT 2 weeks ago and safe to say that “moisture” is not that big of an issue here today. If anything, if it rained during marathon it would probably improve the WBGT on saturday! (yesterday and today have been a furnace and I live south of Tryon)

I’m here watching the dressage it’s amazing!

can anyone find the map for hazards tomorrow?

it’s on Hoefnet. It looks brutal!

What’s the bootleg parking?

I know almost nothing about driving. Could someone give me a quickie rundown? I know they do dressage marathon, and cnes, but why all the walking and slow moving? How long is the course? (marathon) Did I see a horse fall and the camera cut away? So did they have to get out of the cart? I am envious that you have John Kyle calling this. He is surely the best in the world at this. We didn’t get him for eventing.

they were walking because it was insanely hot and they have an “optimal” time, no glory for fastest overall time (except within hazards) so if you are doing good on time you give your horse a breather (also they did 8 KM before they even started in the 8km section with hazards, although they may have shortened that due to conditions).

The horse that fell was the left wheeler, it was a downhill tight turn, he slipped and probably got caught under the other wheeler and hazard fence (I was there but he was on the far side so hard to see exactly where he was). They got the rest of the team unhooked and the carriage moved away but he wasn’t getting up. At that point they were applying ice and water. I think the heat just got to him and he was hoping the plane would come to take him back to a more civilized climate. I heard they had a rough go in hazard 4, so I think it was starting to catch up with that team. He got up fine though, and looked OK. They left the carriage there and we were all coveting it most enviously when we all made our way out after Bram went though.

Which team had the horse fall?

Christoph Sandmann from Germany. btw, he had the most exquisite vehicle in dressage. At one point I commented that the lamps cost more than my entire vehicle. A random stranger dryly offered: “they did” … and even without knowing mine is an above average but not top of the line vehicle he was totally right, even if it had been a Kuhnle

ETA, apparently Boyd ran the marathon without brakes. Tthey failed in A, tried to bleed then in the transfer, didn’t work, so you know… no brakes? nbd.

no brakes in one of the hilliest venues. Is there nothing he can’t do?

Just popping by to say congrats to the U.S. team for their historic win!
It sounds as if it was very challenging out there.
