World's Largest Corn Maze Welcomes Riders

Now this looks like fun. Well, until your horse hears that rustling in the corn stalks.

Sounds like fun!
Here’s an aerial view of the maze:

Cool!#

I live ten minutes from there and had a group ready to go! Unfortunately it has been raining here for a week and yesterday was no different. It is on our list of things to do next fall for certain!

That’s my barn’s photo from last year in the Examiner article!

We went this year as well - we had 11 riders and one cart pulled by a mini. I am the pink helmet on the Percheron

We currently have the most regular ponies in northern Illinois, thanks to concentrated and focused cornstalk munching for the entire 2.5 hour ride.

It was my first time, but there was a good turnout (about 75ish that we saw, but we left around 1, and it was open until 2). I learned that my BM’s dad knows the owner and it initially started as just a fun ride for our barn, then we put the word out, and it grew. The first year there were over 150 riders!

There are 24 punch card stations (http://s1319.photobucket.com/user/2horseygirls/media/1381883_10151988745486252_445050223_n.jpg.html?sort=6&o=2), and we hit all of them over a 2.5 hour ride. It was slightly slippery in spots (I am the world’s most chickensh!t rider, and my horse was minutely adjusting at most, but it wasn’t even enough to make me catch my breath) as it quit raining about 7:30pm the night before, and misted ever so briefly en route to the maze that morning.

Our mini startled a few horses, especially when he came charging out through a “shortcut” after all of us trampled it down  The only thing that spooked a couple of our horses was 2 sections of black corrugated culvert in one spot along the perimeter. They were just at a funky angle coming around a turn, no huge spooks at anything. Most of the horses are BTDTs; last year, there was one TB who basically had to be ponied through the whole thing or he was a kite, but as long as BM had hold of his bit, he was perfectly content.

ETA: A few pics from our ride (+ my handsome boy!).

Well worth it if you are in the area

Was wondering what a “regular” pony was - until the end of the sentence, 2HG.
