Worshipping at the feet of bullriding marketers

Cactuskate,

Thanks for the warnings, I shall heed them. All I want to do is date the ones that make the 8 second count! Woo Woo what a date!! LOL

Actually, Canter, I think she meant exactly what you and I assumed, jreventer being too young for such assumptions. Erin, however, reminded us to clean up our act for a family board.

Heidi if you have watched the Bull riding you would have noticed many wear both helmets, and protective vests. Some even wear collars to protect their necks.

It’s like any sport, when we don’t know much about it we think they’re nutz. Of course thats their take on us too!

Amid all the talk among jumpers of the new skunky approved helmets, it’s odd to me that bullriders don’t wear helmets. We were watching some pro bullriding final last week on TNN, and yes, most wore the padded vests, but few, if any, wore anything on their head but a cowboy hat. Though distracted as I was by all those lovely Wranglers, may not have noticed what they wore on their heads…

Yes but they do they have any teeth left?

My husband is addicted to watching the bull riding. Mumbles something about “crazy” every time one comes out of the chute. And swears he saw one of the riders get his teeth knocked out when he took a blow to the jaw by a bull.

Yea, that is why I watch bull riding…

As for Grand Prix riders being sex, lordy give me Michael Matz or Peter Pletcher anyday!! WOO WOO WOO!!!

Teri, I wasn’t around yesterday, but just read your post about the cowboys. Sounds like something I’d like to see up close and personal.

As someone who’s been going to the National every year since 1972, and who loves the hunters, it breaks my heart that they – and their riders who work so hard all year to qualify – will not be part of this year’s event. Hopefully we can all work to change that next year.

And hopefully can make the ride last a lot longer than eight seconds.

Heidi, which came first, the cowboy or the cowboy song? It seems to me, sitting right smack dab in the middle of cowboy country where every truck is towing a stock/horse trailer in town, that rodeo is a lifestyle, legend, entertainment and myth rolled into one. To name a few things, they have country western songs and singers, Trigger, Wrangler Jeans, Christian Cowboy Association and John Lyons. They even have Billy Bobs down in Fort Worth!!!

The youth rodeo’s in my area are PACKED with competitors and spectators. Young kids ride young stock and those 2 and 3 year old bucking horses give the boys one heck of a buck. And it ain’t exactly cheap entry fees either. Most of the rodeo families I know come from homes where both parents work full time jobs and the kids are in 4-H or FFA in additon to rodeo circit associations.

I think rodeo/western offers a variety of “entrances” to it’s world that hunt seat/jumpers don’t have to offer.

Actually heidi, I was watching with my husband and therefore was not distracted by the Wranglers. …there wasn’t a protective helmet in sight.

At the last show I was at was told by one of his students Harold chopping is now single and has relocated to southern pines…

I’ve edited this. Sorry all.

I know this is a g-rated board, but I must say that the main reason I have become a late-night secret bullriding fan is that those young men have the most attractive rear ends I have ever seen. I think this explains
the marketing appeal as well. They make our dimmest h/j riders seem quite articulate by comparison, but who cares?

PLEASE don’t flame me for saying this. I think the pubilc is more interested in bull riding because of the dangerous. I mean why watch a horse jump a 5ft course when you can see some cowboy get his face beaten in by a 2000lb bulls horn or hooves. Blood and violence is what most targets people to watch television. Ratings folks thats what it comes do to.

Terri, Just wanted to tell you that Ed and I just came back from Las Vegas and the PBR finals! What a great bunch of guys. They really know how to put on a show. And even though my favorite did not win (Terry Don West ) or Ed’s (Chris Shivers) We loved watching Tater and the other 44 guys all five rounds!!!
We had so much fun and I “had” to buy beanie baby bulls of Red Wolfe, Dillinger and Rampage. Why didn’t anyone ever do a Gem Twist,or a Protocol or a Rox Dene beany horse? I stood in line to get those little rascals and when they retired the great bull Red Wolfe I got teary eyed … Just like a great show horse he is all HEART. Tell Murrey to keep up the good work. PBR is the Best.
