worst x-mas present ever recieved

You make a batter with the usual butter and some other stuff to flavor the bread, dip the sammich in it, then throw it on the grill. Makes for a yummy snack. Lots of people make grilled cheese sammiches that have been dipped in batter. Heck, many restaurants serve them that way.

Batter? What is in the batter other than the butter?
When I make grilled cheese there is no ‘dipping’.

Yeah, never seen it done either. Interesting…My foreman grill might have to deal with a few experiments…

Trust me, you’ll like it. There are some great recipes out there involving various batter mixes.

Lex, why not just tell us what the batter stuff is if you make it, instead of just telling us how great it is.

Eggs, the usual butter, and whatever you feel like throwing in the mix to add some flavor.

I love em with a hint of flavor in the batter. Never done anything exotic with the cheese though. I find it’s hard to get much flavor out of the cheese though you can always add toppings for more zip.
When I was a kid my mom’s friend would make us grilled cheese for snacks and make herself one too. She always spread grape jelly on the top slice of hers. It’s actually really, really good! To this day every once in awhile I crave one.

Nothing makes this wife happier than when her husband says “let’s just have grilled cheese and soup for dinner”.

My mother used to make them with mozzarella, a little Miracle Whip, and a slice of tomato. Mmmmmm

Try a bit of mayo on the cheese side.

Thankfully, having a horsey DH, I haven’t gotten a bad present in a while. But I’ll check back in after, just in case.

So it’s a simple version of a monte cristo sandwich?

Yes, that would be an accurate assessment and many restaurant chains serve grilled cheese sandwiches that are very similar to the traditional Monte Cristo sandwich in how it’s prepared and what comes on the plate.

I got a plastic tree ornament with the 2 for $1 price tag on it… Did not get the second ornament lol. And a used, cracked lint defuzzer thing, both from mil lol.

Umm Lex? Where exactly does batter fit in with grilled cheese?
A giant purple sweatshirt with hand painted carousel horse. There were a lot of fake jewels (HUGE) on said horse’s tack.

The sad part is that I recognized the thought process…purple is my fave color & I like horses, so why not?

When my sister and I were in junior high, a relative gave us matching hideous “equestrian theme” sweater vests for Christmas!

My grandma bought me a framed, embroidered horse one Christmas. She completely redeemed herself though, when she bought me a beautiful ceramic horse custom painted to look like my Belair. I still love it.

At a secret santa at work I got a “riding crop” that obviously had come from an “adult” store…very very odd!

totally ot but in some pockets around here they call that dressed. I have lived hear all my life & will never forget the time I walked into a lunch counter down south & was asked if I wanted my grilled cheese dressed. I seriously asked dressed in what? And tomatos are good on them to especialy about July when they are right off the vine. YUM.

Worst present? Has to be when I asked for specific horse-related things, brushes and stuff, or money towards a new bridle, and got a steam iron. Ex Husband told me I could use it to iron my riding clothing and so that made it horse related.

Oh I got one…

My uncle works at the local prison. Low-security type. Anyway…apparently they have a ceramics shop, and you can custom-order things. Yep.

Three horses, a pinto, chestnut, and I think a gray, with THE creepiest eyes I’ve ever seen. I really can’t describe how ugly it was…but hey, it accidentally broke on the move from IL to CA.
