Would/Have you run with the bulls?

Hell no!
My husband has run with the bulls. His eyes were as big a saucers the rest of the day. Women can run but its against Spanish tradition. The only females you see running are tourists.

The bulls are freaking huge. Macho young men greet the herd at the gate. They tap the bull’s noses with rolled up newspapers to further enrage/frighten them. There are so many people running. You only hear about the casualties from the bulls. Way more injuries are the result of the human stampede and testosterone.

I saw a cowboy get the snot beaten out of him by a bunch of Spaniards because he tried to take a bull down by the horns. He was disrespecting the bull.

Only run if you are a fast and nimble 55 year old. And don’t try to take a bull down by the horns.
I have to agree. I’m guessing it is very different running with the bulls when you are 25 years of age as compared to 55. I too have also heard there are many, many injuries from getting trampled by other panicking tourists who also thought the whole thing was a good idea at the time!

There are wonderful ways to discover Spain without involving yourself in barbaric traditions. Just got back from Epona in April, beautiful time to go, all the orchards are in bloom and the smell of the orange blossoms in Seville was heavenly. Go in time for the April Feria horse festival week in Seville, riding but mainly carriage driving. We just missed it.

“Redneck, white trash and blue collar” is Palm Beach 's signature line. Can’t wait to hear about it.

I like New Orleans’ version better. The “bulls” are roller derby girls with plastic bats. http://nolabulls.com

I think it sounds like a great idea. Don’t forget your superman cape.

This mornings news talked about the first matador in 3 decades to be gored to death by a bull.

They also recounted several of the worst injuries of the people running in the streets with the bulls.

FWIW, the bull that killed the matador gets slaughtered and typically so does it mother, to end that blood line. Right now there is a petition somewhere on-line to save the mother ---- ain’t it great----------------

This is a 2015 video of a college student getting gored.

Yep, go right ahead and I hope you live to tell about it.

As an aside, the mother of the bull that killed the matador, has been slaughtered. In Spain, tradition has it that when a matador is fatally gored, the bull’s dam is killed to end the bloodline. And here I thought the bulls were bred to be aggressive.

The fatal thrust of the matador occurs between the bull’s shoulder blades and into the heart, achieved from the front of the animal, over the head. That is also the reason for the picadores and banderilleros focussing on the shoulders to get the bull’s head down to facilitate the matador in the bull’s demise.

OP, a safer and more informative alternative to running with the bulls would be a visit to a fighting bull breeding farm. There are several that offer tours and demonstrations for interested parties.

Whatever your decision, stay safe!

Bullfighting is a cruel sport that should have been relegated to the history books a long time ago.

No tradition or history can negate the fact that bullfighting is torture, mutilation and slaughter of animals for entertainment.

Why no just support a cock fight (heh heh) or dog fight?

I am not an animal rights activist. I spent a large portion of my career in the pharmaceutical industry working in animals in research. You don’t have to like it, but at least that industry is regulated and the animals have a humane end-of-life.

This is entertainment? It sickens me this was even asked.

and that was a beautiful bull. :frowning: i didn’t realize they came in anything but solid black.

Anyone remember that kid’s book- “ferdinand the bull”? If only all bullfights ended as happily!

^^^This!

though I hold human life as precious and above those of animals (see my post on my pharma history- and I am a HUGE animal lover), I cheer for the bulls. Darwinism at work and all.

i think it is time to stop torturing animals for entertainment.

If people are honest- bullfighting is just animal torture

Would we accept this sport if done with any other animal-such as a horse

and running with the bulls while drunk is not much better for the bulls

stupid and offensive

While I am most definitely not generally a pearl clutcher, I think that the running of the bulls and bullfighting is idiotic. The animals are teased and tortured, and significant resources are required to rescue and treat the human casualties.

Just dumb.

I’m surprised that anyone on this board of horse lovers, and by extension animal lovers, would even consider participating in something that supports the sport of bullfighting…perhaps just an attention getting thread. It goes against everything we know about respect for our animals and each other.

I actually don’t know much about bullfighting, but thank ya’ll for the edjumacation.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes…

No. Bullfighting is horrifically cruel and I would not participate in it or support it in any way.

Nope. I don’t have a death wish.
