I’m agasted that a Cother would even contemplate doing such. Wouldn’t death by ice cream be more celebratory?

Kind of like Flicka with a bull
(and I think I cry like a baby every single time!)

I actually don’t know much about bullfighting, but thank ya’ll for the edjumacation.
You have no clue what you put on your bucket list, but you have to put us down?!
You simply ARE precious!
:congratulatory:
However, besides the stupid machismo of running with a herd of 1200 ound animals that may or may not be irritated, you could take in a Portugese style bullfight with the horse, or check out the Charmargue and their style of bull fight, which is still stupid machismo, but the bull gets to do it for years to come.
But since tourists are stupid, you have to watch out, because it has been pushed aside in favor of the Spanish blood sport…
Or just tie a barf back around like a feed bag and go sky diving!
Or SCUBA diving with sharks…a lot less people get hurt by sharks than by bulls!
Haven’t done it, but a few years ago I attended a horse show at the Georgia International Horse Park where a bull run was being held the same weekend. While showing my horse, the bull run was being held in the olympic arena. You could hear the loud music, running, and yelling while showing!
Having just met a lady who was run over by one of her own steer (a stockwoman her whole life so she knows her way around them), I think anyone who does that is just plain stupid. This lady’s pelvis was fractured, arm broken, among other things. They couldn’t even put her pelvis back together with pins there were so many broken bones. They had to put a halo-type of contraption on her hips and keep her on bed rest and hope for the best that the bones would remodel properly. She just started walking two weeks ago. She could have been killed.
It is a stupid “sport” all around, although perhaps some Darwinism at work for the people who run.

Don’t they slaughter the Bulls at the end?
Honestly, I won’t even consider visiting Spain due to this cruelty. Not a country I would want to support and most certainly not an activity I would ever watch/participate in. Ewww. Right up there with the dog eating festivals…
It’s not very humane to eat them while they’re still alive…The running doesn’t bother them, but it’s often hard on people running in front of them.
Also, while the dog-eating festival has been blown out of proportion, different cultures, different rules, all still just animals that are potentially edible. Native American tribes ate all sorts of canids. And not eating meat of some kind is fairly unnatural for Homo sapiens. It’s not important at the end of the day what sort of meat it is, that’s just cultural.
OP: I’ll leave deliberately putting oneself in front of a bull to the professional bullfighters (one of whom recently provided a reminder that sometimes the bull wins the fight by being gored to death.)

I think the thing that really bothers a lot of people about the bull fighting and the dog eating is that the animals are tortured beforehand. Dog meat is considered to be better flavored if the animal dies after being tortured. And of course bull fighting cannot be considered humane treatment by anyone in their right mind.
Eating meat is one thing. But if willfully torturing animals beforehand is encouraged by a culture, count me out.
Who can possibly, unless you live under a rock, profess not to know anything about bull fighting? But yet have it as a Bucket List Item? Disclaimer: I am not a troll, just a lurker, calling BS on that post!

The issue isn’t that they’re killed, the issue is that they’re tortured. If you want to kill an animal, then fine, but kill it quickly and with as little pain a possible. Back when I thought bullfighting was just having the bull chase someone before he killed, I didn’t object. When I learned about stabbing the bull repeatedly with long blades to weaken and enrage it, then I had a problem.

yes it was a childhood favorite
i was sort of disappointed when I learned corks don’t grow on trees like fruit, as illustrated in the book.

I would never even dream of running with the bulls. It sounds stupid and people who do it deserve to get hurt. I also didn’t know that the bulls are running towards the bullfighting ring. Disgusting. Bullfighting should be banned.
