Would these boots be acceptable in hunters?

I’m looking to get a new pair of tall boots to show in in hunters next year. I found a pair I like quite a bit:

https://www.eikishow.com/en/tall_riding/contender/

However, I’m not sure if the bit of brown trim and snaps would be accptable in the hunter ring.

What do you think COTH? OK for the hunter ring or no?

And as a side question… Does anyone have a pair of Eiki boots? How do you like them?

Thanks!

Ehhhh I’d say they’re borderline. If you get the chocolate color I think it’d be all right, but the color in the photo is too contrasty to me.

I mean, nobody’s gonna chase you out of the ring with pitchforks, but I’d imagine you’d get some looks from the more staunch traditionalists - my old school BO would have a heart attack lol.

I think its fine. I don’t personally love them, but they’re not going to effect your placings in most cases.
the thing is, if you’re getting them to do the hunters, I’d go more traditional. If you’re getting them because you like them, I’d say go for it. Just know, not everyone will like them

Depends on where you show, in what and, honestly, how good your trips are. It’s all about the trip, IMO if you are struggling a bit to average at best at non rated heights and venues on an average horse? They might look a mite pretentious.

Sounds weird but I have found that every discipline has its share of those who…um…out dress their abilities? Know what I am saying? Better they dress, worse they ride? True in skiing, cycling and other sports too.

I think those boots are kind of cute but I wouldn’t have the nerve to wear them in the Hunters unless I was a leggy Junior on a very consistently highly placed horse. Jumpers for sure, Eq, no way. Not that I think most judges would even notice in Hunters, just wouldn’t do it.

Wait, are these boots fully custom? The prices start at $400 depending on the model. Is the shipping astronomical?

I was telling myself that I can’t afford customs for my crazy long skinny legs but these are totally within budget as long as shipping isn’t hundreds of dollars…

Addendum: has anyone ordered these (or other customs like Casa de las Botas or La Mundial) without having a rep do the measurements (i.e. doing measurements myself)?

Me. Every day of the week.

… (raises hand)

But really that is good point. I used show a lot as a junior and will be showing for the the first time in years. As much as I enjoy hunters I get tired of buying the exact same things over and over. Thought I might be able to skate by with these, but it’s looking like no.

I have to wear boring suits to work constantly, I would like a little variety somewhere haha.

I don’t believe they are fully custom at that price point. I’ve seen a review where the person that got a pair fully custom for ~900, I think? I see on the website that they ship Fedex, I did a quick quote on Fedex and shipping would be around a hundred. (Of course I don’t order things internationally that often, so don’t quote me on accuracy haha)

I think the piping is lovely, and I wouldn’t hesitate to have that in anything but the Big Eq. Doubt the judge could even see it while you’re moving. However, I’d probably get black zipper tabs - not red.

Some people just like fashion.

You don’t need to be a top rider to be fashionable. I don’t consider that pretentious. I do consider it pretentious for you to judge other riders based on their outfits.

OP: Have you spectated any shows in your area recently? I think those boots look lovely but some areas are more conservative than others. It’s not going to affect your score in the show ring, but you may encounter snooty people who will judge your outfit. If you don’t care, then just go for it .

Hey man, can’t hate on that. I personally like to be more conservative with my choices (I like fun belts, cool jacket linings, and maybe a colored shirt from time to time) in the hunters, but if you love the boots and wearing them in the show ring makes you happy, then go for it! But if you’re trying to blend in, then maybe consider something else. The boots won’t make or break your trip most likely.

It looks like you can select different trim colors. What you you think if it wasn’t as bright? If you go this link https://www.eikishow.com/en/showroom/#sitio
it shows an example. Not a great example since they went with green but hey.

Maybe a more subtle brown?

I think you’d be fine with those boots if you’re just getting colored piping and no bling. Really, from far away dark trim is hard to see. We have a junior who rides a very fancy hunter and has the De Niro’s with the darn down piping/trim. Up close they are lovely–from a judges distance away you would never know.

And yes–I also raise my hand for liking fashion beyond my skill! Nothing crazy, but I do have a crystal on my boots (otherwise very plain Tucci’s–which I wear in the pre-adult eq), and a Samshield with a Personally Preppy monogram (black). I think GM once described this affliction as “all frosting no cake.” I am happy to be the frosting while working on my cake making skills.

If you love them, get them!

Good to know I’m not the only one! And I love the “all frosting no cake”, I’m going to use that.

I don’t personally care for the look but I doubt the judge would be able to see that piping unless you’re literally running him down-- in which case you have bigger reasons not to pin.

That’s what underpants are for.

Just did a clinic with an R judge last weekend and he said you’d be surprised what details the judges notice. He’s old school and has great distaste for anything blingy or trendy.

How long are you dressed for the show-ring? An hour a day? For that amount of time, I’d go as conservative as possible. After you get done riding, go as wild as you want.

But that’s just an opinion of one old fuddy duddy.

I am very intrigued by the more traditional tall boots listed on their website with the elastic laces and back panel, but can’t figure out the sizing.

If you go through the steps to add the boots to your cart you get a pop up notification that they will contact you for your specific measurements.

The exact message is, “Once your order is complete, you will recive an email with a request for your meassures and comments on your products”

This doesn’t exactly inspire confidence but it does lead me to believe that the boots on the website are full customs? I have an email out to the general contact address and will let you know if I hear back.

Cool, good to know. I get the impression that maybe they are semi customs? Maybe they will take a few key measurements and then make them in your chosen style? If so, not bad! Some of the more conservative models are really pretty.
