Would this surcingle work?

I came across this inexpensive “vaulting” surcingle on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Performers-1st-Choice-Vaulting-Surcingle/dp/B003M6HR28

I was toying with the idea of getting it, NOT for real vaulting of any kind, but as a general purpose lunging/ground driving surcingle and to add to a normal square saddle pad for occcaisional bareback riding with a more robust “OH CRAP” grab option than offered by mane or a typical grab strap. Any thoughts?

One trouble for real riding with a vaulting surcingle is that it sits right where you would sit and so with it in front of you, it may put you a few inches behind your ideal spot for proper riding in balance.

Where it sits is perfect for balancing while doing vaulting moves or even the first bit of riding for a beginner or little kid starting out, not so much for riding and training in general.

May work with some horses, not so good with others.
Just try it and see how that works for you.

I agree with Bluey re where you sit but I can add personal antidote of this surcingle being poorly made and the square handles hurt when you hit your leg on it

You can get a web surcingle for less than that, which works for longing and holding blankets, but lacks the handholds. Since others point out the handholds will be in the way, I’d say the one advertised isn’t appropriate for your purposes.
