Just whining… anyone else have a proven relatively young ( age 9) healthy mare With perfect follicles, clean, ect, that refused to get
pregnant by a stallion with great cooled semen? Who, btw, she had a gorgeous foal by the same stallion ( Sternlicht) last year!!!🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
I did! We finally switched veterinarian’s and they recommended doing the oxytocin protocol (had not heard of it back then). Once we did that, she got pregnant each year without issue…even though she never showed any fluid on ultrasound. Oxytocin was the only thing we changed or added. https://www.equine-reproduction.com/…s/oxytocin.htm
What does your vet say? Being in Kentucky, you have access to some of the best repro vets in the world…if anyone could get her pregnant, I would think they could. If they did all the tricks and proper protocols (oxytocin, lavage, treat for fungus/biofilm) I don’t have much to offer!
Yes EVERYTHING was
done, and mare looked great and semen was great. All parties involved were scratching their head. I quit after three tries, due to the time of year. And… I was OVER it:)
Could she be having an immune response against the sperm? It does happen
I have had a very bad year, breeding-wise. I have a 9 y.o. Hanoverian who successfully foaled last year. Starting in April, she has been bred three times. I don’t think a stone has been left unturned, and she is now a riding horse because we can’t get her in foal. She has had culture/cytologies, oxytocin protocol, fresh semen used, and a different stallion tried. The semen has been checked to be sure it is good. We have had ovulation confirmed, and we know that her tubes are open. I tried my on farm vet, who is very good, and the repro team at UC Davis. This may have been the final sign that I should retire from this breeding business.
