Wow. Burghley.

I think you can watch it free after the event.

I see top hats have made a come back, not that they were gone…but they were appearing less. Now they seem to be all over again. What’s the love for them
all about?

They are already posting dressage rides. Been watching them all morning! Love Burghley and Burghley TV.

They aren’t making a comeback, the Brits in particular have hung on to the top hat much longer than many of the other countries. You are seeing more top hats here than at other events because the field is predominantly British.

Thanks for the Redesigned breeding link - looks like lots of Selle Francais. Cant wait to watch that one run and jump!

Thank you! Burghley TV. The early rides that I watched were quite good. Everyone is riding in top hats. I think that it is really cool that they are getting interviewed, before their scores come out. It is a nice touch. Although, I think that I would not want to stop and chat, if I had a terrible ride.

I loved Pippa Funnel’s rein back to canter transition! She was the only one who cantered without any trot steps. The shape of her canter serpentine was lovely.

Andrew Hoy’s horse had a very nice bend in his half pass work and his flying changes were “spot on.”

The cross country looks so difficult, but what would you expect from a CMP course? I pray for glance offs and safe rides for horses and riders.

I noticed the same thing at Rolex though?

Site is over quota. :sigh: Guess this mean I have to do actual work…

If a helmet is good enough for Charlotte Dujardin…

I do think it’s a British thing in part. They’re not very smart in general, more than a bit stubborn and none of their top riders have taken the lead on being good role models. From the field in general, have you guys noticed any particular riders who had switched to helmets back in top hats? I.e. Paul Tapner, Sam Griffiths, Lynn, etc.? That would be truly unfortunate.

As an aside, does anyone else feel that having the leaf pit at the end is unfair? I don’t like the thought of that drop on exhausted legs. Seems a bit cruel. I couldn’t think of any recent CCI*** or **** with such a big drop at the end of the course.

The fact that top hats are still allowed in eventing makes it quite clear that the sport is not actually serious about safety.

Go TIM and OBIE!!!

When I see top hats I always just think, “it’s no wonder other sports don’t take us seriously.” Especially the really tall ones … Rather than looking athletic or elegant, to me they just make the riders look like the guys on Gobblers Knob on Groundhog Day!

Where are they posting the rides at?

That was a great video of the course. It looks insane…and those are some tricky corners and landings. Looking forward to seeing how it rides.

Yes, I have been actively refreshing, and it is working now! Manni’s nephew, Niklas Bschorer, put in just a lovely and mature test. He is such a nice rider!
