Wraps- should I?

Going to a PC hunter pace on Sunday. I am going to trace clip my horse’s body, but not legs, tonight.
I normally do not put him in boots or wraps for anything at home.
The pace jumps are mostly poles with an occasional coop set at a level he is way comfortable with.
Pace time is usually 1 1/2 hours.
Should I bother wrapping? I will put on bell boots just in case of a slip/grap.
I don’t like the idea of boots for such a long ride as they build up a ton if heat. At least the ones I own do not have vents.
I do have wraps that are like Ace bandage material, but I don’t know of their “breathable” properties.
I boot up for Cross country but they are really only on for 15 minutes then he is done and they are stripped off.
Thoughts?

If your horse doesn’t knock him/her-self, then I wouldn’t use the wraps. Lots of chance for mud and other debris to create rubs and the heat build up is also an issue.

I would say, for sure, don’t wrap for the first time ever for a 1.5 hour outing. Can cause way more harm than good.

If it were me, I’d not use anything, I don’t unless the horse has interference problems. And that is very, very rarely for me. Last need being 20 years ago. But if you really, really feel a need to use something, go with your xc boots.

What Beverly said…if you feel the need go with the XC boots. My hunt horse has a splint on the inside of his left front that could double as a mounting block if it were outside…he always goes in boots to keep that from getting knocked and I use the Woof double lock galloping boots. When I used the single lock ones I taped them as I would for XC…have never had anything get under the Woofs and they are made to get wet.
