Wry nose?

Any experience with wry nose? How much did it affect the horse? Horse is question is young and only has 30 days under saddle. Nostrils are level, but bridge of nose is pronounced and crooked. Otherwise a lovely looking horse. Wondering if it is worth considering (vet would look at before purchase),

If the horse can physically do the job that the rider wants the horse to do I don’t see any reason to not consider the horse.

Totally depends upon the severity and your intended job for the horse. Best to have a vet evaluate this individual with you.

I would be hesitant in case there could be long term issues. Make sure the vet does a good work up of teeth and occlusion. I’d be worried that things may change as the horse keeps growing, a it’s still young.

But has anyone had experience with it? I had never seen it before.

The biggest issue is how much it affects his breathing. Has anyone seen him get really worked up in the pasture to the point of heavy breathing? There is actually surgery to help this, but I’m not sure if there’s an age limit for its usefulness

I vetted a horse a couple years ago that had a mild wry nose; Horse was 9 at the time, doing upper level dressage work, in double bridle, no issues. His was mild enough that a casual observer might not even notice. PPE vet indicated that dental work should be maintained consistently and that was about it.

My only experience was with one we bought out of a kill pen as a foal. She needed several insanely extensive, expensive an painful surgeries over the years. Eventually she went on to be low level rideable but with a tracheotomy hole in her throat. I would never in a billion years put a horse through all that again but the fact that this horse is under saddle without any interventions bodes well to me.

That surgery ordeal and the tracheotomy doesn’t sound anything like the surgery procedure I’ve read about fairly recently

The trach wasn’t planned, she would have been euthanized if we knew that would have been the outcome. She had some complications and it was the only way to keep her alive.
