Is it bad? Thanks for the warning, I’ll pass on watching a horse die.
It is awful, I regret watching it. It is only a very short clip, but you know.
Yes, it’s been cut, but it was awful. Very brief but immediately apparent what was happening. Deeply unsettling and sad.
I just read this EN article on the upcoming Morven Park 4*. I couldn’t help but cringe a bit reading about the hidden jumps until the last second, or the other kinds of “tricks” built into the course, as well immense need for adequate fitness with the terrain and all of the steep inclines/declines.
I guess this is really the million dollar question at the heart of this thread, but where is the line between testing fitness/skills/preparation of horse and rider and flat out asking for devastating falls/accidents?
It’s an end of season championship level 4* course, so testing fitness shouldn’t really be a question. Riders should expect it. The combination with the challenging bending A/B looks like it is designed to result in runouts rather than falls. The goal is to make it difficult without being dangerous and honestly based on the pictures it looks very appropriate.
4 Horse Falls at Morven Park thus far today.
4 horse falls at Boekelo today as well. Two of those were at the last fence.
I think they removed the last fence part way through XC. there were two rider falls in addition to the two horse falls.
They did remove that last fence later in the day. Before they decided to move it, I saw course people spray white paint across the top lines of the fence. Guess it didn’t help, because eventually they removed the entire fence. Unusual for a final fence to cause so many issues. The end of XC featured a few fences in the arena, then the horses exited and jumped the final fence on grass.
I had to turn it off. 4 falls in like 29 minutes. Not my sport.
Sad update to the thread which isn’t updated regularly anymore but my heart just aches for William.
WFPs Oratorio died approaching the final fence on XC this weekend at Lincolnshire. I know William really loved that horse. Hugs to all his connections.
Very very sad for WFP and the owners of Oratorio.
It is based on their own claims data I would assume.
Too many TB’s who happen to be eventers have submitted claims resulting in a higher loss ratio than they deem acceptable for their business.
I doubt it has anything to do with any outside research or data nor does it mean that TB’s as a breed are less sound. Just that TB eventers insured with this company are costing more than they’d like, and they would have to raise rates above what people are likely to pay to make it work.
What happened today at Stable View with Bold Tiger in the 2*? My condolences to the rider and horse’s connections.
Don’t know any details, but living close by I wonder about any weather effects today at Stable View. It has been steadily raining since yesterday afternoon, and the temperature turned markedly colder overnight.
Oh no. I‘m so devestated for her.
Looks like they fell at fence 4.
Very sad news, condolences to all their connections
The footing at Stable View yesterday was pretty good for all of the tracks. I was out watching the XC so I’m wondering if it was a cardiac event for the horse?
