WWYD - resolved

This sounds like the statement was made privately, not an official complaint or a public statement or posting. This sounds like the OP has insider knowledge they want to make public, and indeed have done so by posting here. I expect from the details here, someone local would be able to piece together the identities. We have the state, we know it’s a trainer from a barn where another trainer is currently under SS investigation, it’s a smaller horse community.

So I think OP has achieved their purpose without actually writing an article.

I’m in that community. I know the junior. I suspect the situation is one I’m quite familiar with, but maybe it isn’t, as I did not get to see BITSA’s original post. There is quite of bit of ‘drama’ in the PDX H/J scene right now that is based on rumor, innuendo and a SS allegation that has been investigated by SS and LEOs with no charges/suspensions. If that is what BITSA and the Junior’s personal “experiences” are alluding to, I am disgusted. This is the bad end of SS-- the “OMG! did you hear about __??” level fo rumor-milling that we are starting to experience that is ruining careers.

Grateful1-- can you shoot me a PM. I have questions.

Ah. I missed the original post and was trying to piece it together. (Not The Who etc)

The original post is saved in one of the responses. Later on someone accuses the OP of using information gained from contacts on club executive and OP repiles the information was from a parent.

In either case posting here saying “should I write something about this on the COTH magazine site?” has the presumably intended effect of spreading hearsay or confidential information while appearing to decide not to.

I’m not in the state or even the country so I don’t really care that much who these folks are

I’m concerned because one, I’m in that organization. Two, I know the junior who write the overwrought and dramatic essay that COTH published. Three, the rumor mill around alleged SS violations/law enforcement actions is effecting pros and amateurs unnecessarily. Four, if the OP is using insider knowledge to stir up/dig out details, that’s an issue for our state organization as well. This should concern all of us involved in the industry.

Agreed. Before I knew anything I my advice was to not blow it up.

If an organization or sport has a general culture of toxic gossip, it will erupt around SS and everywhere else. Sports with juniors can be particularly bad this way if the adults are not committed to modelling responsible behaviour.
