I do not see why this article needs to be taken down as it has nothing to do with the parties involved, we assume.

What does the trainer have to gain. Why do they want the generic article taken down?

I do not think you need to say or add any thoughts. It adds nothing ,that I can see. It serves no purpose to call out the trainer for their request except breed ill will

Plus, I’m not going to nitpick your comments, but I will say, you got it wrong about why the article was asked to be taken down. I think accurate reporting of facts would be something you were good at.

Even without naming names, could you get the impression that the article was targeting that trainer’s barn? Could others? If so, why is it inappropriate for a trainer to ask a local organization to remove an article that suggests they have done something wrong? Especially if that trainer has no SS investigation open against them and a targeted article could be detrimental to their business and stature within the community.

I don’t agree with everything about SS but I appreciate its mission. But the culture that article implies exists at NW horse shows (“I’m sick of holding my keys in between my fingers at horse shows when I’m walking to my car after the sun has set. I’m tired of scanning every inch of my car through the windows before I unlock it and get in.”) was such a drastic misrepresentation our community that I’m embarrassed COTH agreed to publish it.

(edited to say - re-reading the original post I understand that there is a SS investigation regarding another trainer in the barn, but not one on the trainer that made the compliant. I’m not sure someone’s training program should be allegedly* guilty by association? *since the investigation is still ongoing)

I am not going to fault the junior for how she feels about her safety, you and I do not know what trauma she may have encountered. That’s not the issue I’m asking about. I find it troublesome that a trainer would want to silence an opinion of a junior that supports SS.

As an initial matter I got my information from a parent–but love how you want to name names, shall I do that too? Doxing is really not approprraite. I’m not trying to create drama, I’m trying to create a dialogue about a thorny situation being as delicate as I can.

I am very good at accurate facts, that’s why I used them. Please tell me what was inaccurate? Also–I never stated why the article was asked to be taken down, please read more closely.

You are in a position to influence quite a few people on this forum with your not so discreet opinion on some barns in the NW. Always the first to hop on the COTH forums to “generate a conversation” when there is something going on at ‘PNW barns’. You seem to have an agenda to smear these barns. I have enough to talk about in my own life without generating more discussions on a public forum.

You don’t have to believe me; but it’s the truth. I didn’t mention the sate, the PNW, or any barn or individual. As stated above I did not say the reason for the demand, you’re unable to say anything I said was inaccurate. I haven’t posted on here in ages. By naming me you seem to want to be smearing. It’s too bad you are unwilling to have a conversation about this without attacking me baselessly. Clearly you’re defensive and I’m sorry feel like you need to be. Recently we had a junior in our state publish an article on COTH re SS. The article was reposted to the state hunter/jumper assn FB page. A trainer in the state demanded that the article be taken down from the FB page. This seems like such … inappropriate conduct to me by the trainer. Part of me wants to write an epilogue to the junior’s article about what happened. Part of me thinks that will create a huge mess, maybe even for the junior (who was not a survivor – was just offering her perspective).

Our state has had several SS issues, including some high profile ones, so its not as if the juniors article singled anyone out. Her article doesn’t name names or barns.

I would just let it ride for now. You say there is someone at the trainer’s barn under investigation. At this point in order to protect the anonymity of the juniors involved in this complaint, the most ethical thing to do is to let it play out in Safe Sport.

I realize there is a strong trend in American culture to make everything into a three ring circus in the media, but this is very often destructive to people in ways you can’t forsee.

I think said author of the article hit the nail on the head a little too closely for some people’s comfort. The article was well written and put a great perspective on the issues at hand. That being said, the PNW(and let’s not forget about CA) is doing a good job of smearing themselves, regardless of what is being posted on the forums by a handful of people.

Bless your heart, you said “a trainer demanded” the article be taken down. You are inaccurate in the fact that there was no demand. Only a statement from a trainer to the social media coordinator of the OHJA. There is your inaccurate fact. BTW you need to revisit the definition of Doxing. Had I wanted to dox you, I would have also used your last name, which I did not do. Have a blessed day!

Doxxing is actually posting any identifying information, so if someone can identify the poster from what you have posted then yes you have doxxed them. Not allowed on the forum either.

I would be curious what kind of statement would cause the upheaval? I didn’t particularly like the article, but if that is someone’s perception- that is how they legitimately feel and deserves to be heard.
