WWYD? Turned away at the gate...

Unclear to me whether you are technically also a landowner, but back in the day, landowners simply hunted for free, anywhere in the hunt country, wearing whatever attire they chose to wear.[/QUOTE]

I am technically a landowner with Cheshire, who also hunts the land across from me, but not with this other hunt. But I don’t think Cheshire even offers a discount capping fee, at least not to my knowledge (but I do get other perks, such as free hound walking).

And back to the OP, it may be a first world problem, but she didn’t deserve to be humiliated like that! Glad the situation was straightened out and happy hunting!

I’d like to point out grossing 100k and netting 100k are two different things. We also don’t know (nor is it the OP’s responsibility to disclose) the other financial aspects of their life.

The point is she was told she could do what she did, and then was rudely called out for it by someone else. Given that information, it really doesn’t matter if she does or does not have the money. The situation could have been handled with more tact.

Either way, I’m glad it worked out for the OP in the end.

“Two weeks ago, I called the master and told him that I was embarrassed to admit that I had not hunted because I couldn’t afford it. He told me then that my presence was much wanted and told me to just pay the cap until I had reached the membership dues. I told him that I would do that, thanking him profusely, and told him that I would pay in full in January if not sooner. All was well.”

The above from the original post sure doesn’t strike me as a sense of entitlement. It says, ‘hey, haven’t been out because I can’t afford to,’ to which Master responds, ‘but we want you to come out, let’s work it out.’

And the OP reported it’s all been amicably worked out, so all’s well that ends well.

I just finished reading the rest of the story, and am glad it got sorted out. I hope the rude Secretary either is kicked out, or at least has apologized profusely to OP.

Well, I am broke. Totally. Entitlement? Why? I had an agreement with the master. Plain and simple.

Yes, my business has GROSSED over 100k. I rarely NET anything. But the horses pay for things like hunt dues, entry fees, vet bills, training, etc. But not this year.

My income from my nonprofit medical job is meager.

I am not sure why people are now CoTH-piling on and claiming that I am somehow rich, entitled, taking advantage, etc etc. I was NOT asking that anyone feel sorry for me.

Indeed, I stopped hunting simply because I could not afford it. I finally called the master to explain my situation at which time he INVITED me to hunt on a pay through CAP program.

Fox hunting has been my one relief from an extraordinary stressful life about which those who throws stones know nothing about.

If you quoted my whole post I said she should not have been treated in that manner. As for “grossing vs net”, I’ll make sure my accountant has that clear. [sarcasm font = no kidding]
