I really love forest green on a chestnut, and the navy looks lovely, but honestly go with whatever you want!

chestnuts are so hard because what looks amazing on a red tinted one might not look good on the yellow one!

My last horse had navy, black, and white or sky blue. She was a bay so it looked nice on her. My current horse is a chestnut and I’ll just stick with the same without the sky blue.

Black and gold worked for me: you can get most things in black, and add gold or yellow, or find majority golden yellow items - it’s very sharp. I have a black body protector and galloping boots now so I can add whatever colored tee shirt and electrical tape to make the colors work with whatever saddle pad color I pick.

I don’t like black on a chestnut. You could do brighter colors, like a royal or teal blue, or a mint or bright green. I think as long as you avoid red/yellow based colors you should look good!

I saw and hung onto a pic of a chestnut going xc at Rebecca Farm whose rider was wearing a rust colored shirt that was very close to the horse’s color. Some of the accents (stripes on shirt sleeeves, stripes on breast collar) were a kind of bright orange yellow, and there were also “straight” orange stripes on the breast collar and horse’s boots. Orange bell boots, light tan breeches, brown tack. It sounds kind of hideous, but I assure you it looked fabulous.

that actually sound really pretty, do you still have the pic? if so i’d love to see

I have never liked red on a chestnut.

Purple looks good too (a bluer purple).

I am hoping to outfit mine in a nice French blue.

I’ve always had navy and black with maroon accents, which worked well on my blacks, bays and greys. But now I have two chestnuts; a bright rich chestnut and a light dull one. I think the French blue will look nice on the light dull chestnut.

I never would have thought I’d like yellow and chestnut, but you two look great. I love the combo!

I like it - maybe add a couple of stripes with navy tape to bring it all together?

I think that might be @albertaeventer, she has very distinctive colours. She posts here, on Facebook, and blogs.
