[rubs hands together vigorously] Now for the fun stuff!
Does anyone know where the course is posted? I am looking in the usual suspect places and no joy.
I posted this on the thread asking where the start box was – why WEG doesn’t have this stuff ready for everyone. Why we are finding things on blogs and esp other nation’s. The Brits have the xcountry fences posted. The link to see the XC fences online http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/galle.../xc/?g2_page=1
There was a blog posted that had a Xcountry map on it.

Why do we have to hunt for most of this stuff? Shouldn’t these things be centrally posted by the organizers?

Eventing Nation saves the day (again).
fence 16,looks to me like it might be a problem fence for people.but that may also be the angle of the photo.and i LOVE the sign in photo 39 lol."please eat the apples in the box,not the ones on the jump"lol

Pfft, I think I have a nice blog
http://www.eventingvolunteer.blogspot.com/
I’m no Jimmy Wofford (thank God ), but I did post my own course walk comments too.
COTH has a course walk with Boyd Martin.

I am with you 1,000%, BetterOffRed. That one looks terrifying, and like a trap. I don’t know how the eventers do it… I am farrrr too chicken!
OMG that tree is TERRIFYING. And am I the only one who finds the fish in the first water complex extremely creepy looking? lol

Nope, I’m with you on that one, too! Honestly, after watching the Intermediate (I think) rockstars do the CC course at the AEC’s at Chatt Hills a couple weeks ago - I think this course at the WEG looks petrifying. I didn’t see ANYthing at AEC that looked as scary as lots of the questions on this course. But again, I don’t know squat about 3-day.
I thought that tree was one of the most reasonable questions on course!
Holy Cow! I thought that I had seen some tough questions, but these are truly scary.
I see what Jimmy Wofford meant when he said that the riders will need to hold their line or they will have stops and runouts. No guts, no glory?
I am praying for a safe day for all of the riders and horses!
I think I would pray that my horse is spun from the trot up before the x/c so I could retain some sort of pride.
If there is not a trot up before the x/c, I would have to slip and fall and break my leg.
Either one would be a preferable option to actually riding this course.
Any guesses on the % of clear, double clear, penalties, eliminination/withdrawals?
I’m going to guess:
clear: 30%
double clear:5%
Penalties: 40%
elimination/withdrawals: 25%
How many people qualified from smaller countries and are underprepared for something like this?
Both 10 and 17a look petrifying. http://www.chronofhorse.com/photos_videos?nid=22809 If a horse hits those or just comes in wrong…doesn’t look very forgiving.
I’ve morphed into a “dressage person” - so please do (rightfully) assume I sadly don’t know beans about real 3-Day. But some of you posting sound like you do have a clue …
Is this truly a scary looking course (to a real Eventer-type person)? To uneducated me, in addition to the “look” of a lot of the questions, the sweet spot, or happy jumping place in the middle of the jump which you hope to get the right approach for… looks to be pretty elusive - at least from the photos, due to slope / size / apparent angle of approach, etc.
I’ve mucked about on the course at Poplar Place in GA, watched the AECs & last qualifier for the U.S. / Canada this month, also in GA (Chatt Hills) - and seriously, nothing on either course for the most part looks to me like MOST of this course. Oh, and I watched the streaming vid from the CC from Rolex this year, too… this looks quite a bit more scary than any of that.
Is it, or is it just daunting to the completely uninitiated?? (Thank you in advance for helping to educate the un-educated)
Longer options
I think all scarey fences have longer less frightening options that are not shown. The longer option would take more time. These are the direct options made for the best of the best to determine the world champion. PatO

THe “big wigs in the know” that I have read on line are predicting 20 clear rides, 5 double clears.
Yes, it looks big and scary. Again, the “experts” have said though, they don’t consider it to have any “bogey questions” that are unfair, but apparently every single fence is max size. The US have said they are considering the long option at the first water to avoid the 6’6" drop followed by two max fences, then another immediate drop…
The straight line info is because a large number of fences have angled ground lines, many of which are open ditches. They have said if you have a spooky horse you are likely toast to get through clean, and if you are not riding forward you likely won’t get through without a stop either because of all the angled ditches.
One praise I have read is that apparently every single combination does include an option, so for those not here for the glory but to complete safely, they are not forced into a straight route they are not prepared for . Congrates to the designer for that.
I too, am honestly saying prayers for all horse and riders. Kind of sad when you anticipate a competition where not all horses and rider, literally, could possibly not survive…
I have looked briefly at the pictures
and I have walked several world Championship courses. [In the far distant past], and as I recall, they all had a TERRIFYING fence or two. Which were jumped so easily as to be ‘well what was that all about?’ I think the reason they frighten the life out of us is because we aren’t the ones riding the course. When I would walk a course, I would take 4-5 pictures of a difficult fence so I could see all the possibilities. Falls are always a possibility on a big course, as is a racehorse dropping dead of a heart attack on the track. Not minimising the dangers, but I guess we could just turn them out and they could just all be pasture puffs.

Way OT here, but I’ve been reading your name as ridingdarts every time I’ve seen it. I got quite a kick out of it. And now I realize it’s “arts” not “darts.”
Here I am standing in the bottom of the ditch under the downed log trakehnerjump. I am 5’7". There is no horse on earth I would ride over this fence, but that is why I am not an eventer.
