They own 280 horses and are just now cutting back on breeding?

Did these folks ever hear of selling surplus stock?

G.

Poor management practices. Lack of selective breeding. No $$$ from me, & I can be such a bleeding heart passing out the dough.

My gripe is, with 50,000+ mustangs in holding pens why are they breeding more?

down in the article it says the conservancy owns 100 head… I guess the other 180 head are owned by Frank Kuntz, but that is questionable as the article is kind of written to twist one’s heart

Expenses for the 100 horses owned by the conservancy come to about $150,000 a year.

Everyone’s a critic though they don’t know what they are talking about. Blah, blah, blah. :disgust: Typical COTH response, worthless. That’s why I rarely post here anymore.

I guess the OP was a veiled attempt to fund raise.

I’m all for preserving an endangered breed, but when I looked at the prices of their horses they seemed high, especially considering that they now have so many that they can’t feed.

I know the OP took the article away in a huff, but perhaps what the preservation organization needs is a different way of looking at, breeding, selling, and promoting their breed?

Wow, it costs $15,000 PER HORSE, to take care of them for a year?? Anyone spending that kind of money is just crazy, certainly not doing things in a reasonable manner!!

I don’t spend $15,000 a year for expenses on ALL our horses together!! Yet they are healthy, active, used hard, in good physical shape. Would have been interesting to read the OP.

What happened to the original post? What article?

Presumably (judging by the OP’s name) something about an obscure Mustang strain/Indian pony…

ETA, this is NOT it, but she is involved with Nokota horses.

Last time I checked, 150k divided by 100 horses was 1500/horse/year

My only experience with Nakota was a $5000 blind foal which was ‘donated’ to a rescue. I believe the dam was bred again. How about finding out if it was hereditary?
