Xylazine (the horse drug) and its human abusers

From what I’ve read it’s not something users are trying to add at all, and the effects are horrific and make attempts to get off of drugs much harder (most people don’t want to be addicts, it’s not a fun life is a huge understatement).

Sorry! What I meant to point out was that they are working on a bill that would provide an exception for animal use so that xylazine would not have to be treated like a scheduled drug:

Last month, a bipartisan bill introduced in both chambers of Congress by members from rural states — including Nevada, Iowa, New Hampshire, California, Florida, Texas and Colorado — offered a compromise. Rather than listing xylazine as a controlled substance, the bill proposes that a person who employs it for “illicit” purposes — sales or distribution for human use — would face the same penalties as if it were listed as a Schedule III drug, including fines up to $500,000 and a first-offense sentence of up to 10 years in prison.

Law enforcement wants to schedule it, livestock people do not.

Glad to hear that, but IMHO, the only “livestock people” who ought to be handling it are DVMs.

I agree! But they need the support of “livestock people” (my term, not theirs) aka us rural folks, to get the darn bill passed.
