My elderly porch kitty was deaf. I mean, stone deaf. He could not hear a sound. He was even tested by his vet, who didn’t 100% believe me. Deaf cat.
Nice little cat was not doing well and diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. You may remember my previous post about how to give him his 2x/day medicine. (thank you cat people of COTH for the tube treat suggestion).
He’s been on the meds for just about a month, and while at first I was very concerned, he is now recovering nicely. He is back to his old self and when I say his old self, I mean his frailty is gone, his appetite is back (although only canned food now) and he’s going over the fence, which he hadn’t done in about six months, grooming properly, asking for pets and hanging out with the dogs.
This morning I went out to feed him-he spends the night in the house but wakes me up at around four or five to go outside.
I called his name a few times, and there he was, trotting up to the fence and meowing for his breakfast.
He heard me!!
I have noticed him being more responsive and I was cautiously hopeful, but was thinking maybe he felt my door slam while he was under the house, which is a place he likes to hang out.
Today was proof. He was in the neighbor’s yard and came when I called his name.
YAY!
