Yeah for Calvin & Mine that Bird!
Horse has a common head, but a great build, and dealt well with all the idiocy going on around him.
I know I just said to hubby… that horse would make a fab hunter he is a lovely mover…

I suppose he’s making more money racing tho!!

It looked like the trainer was pissed that all they kept asking him about was the drive from NM.

That was fantastic! what a lovely, lovely race!

TV went off and computer went off due to hail storm just as the horses broke from the gate.

Please tell me all what happened!!! Now the TV is on but the channel that was covering the race is now ONLY COVERING the collapse of the Cowboys practice facility.

No horse news at all on our local NBC channel.

Please give me info
Okay at first I was like Cowboy practice fatality?!?!?!?! And then I checked ESPN and it said facility collapsed. DOH! Way to read right?

Anyways, thought it was weird that Fresian Fire came in 2nd to last.

But what an awesome ride for Calvin!!! That was soooo awesome!!!

Somebody better be spoiling that little gelding back at the barn–couldn’t believe the owner/trainer didn’t even pat him! Give the horse some credit. What a plucky little horse.

Did I hear them right, 3yo GELDING? Sheesh, what a shame. Though who would have expected it to be worth keeping a $9500 colt intact?

HOLY CRAP, I wonder if anyone hit the Superfecta…I’d have been happy with a $2 win ticket.

Yup, lol, noticed this. That is ok, I found it through the derby website. Way to go Mine the Bird!!

Thrilled for Calvin. He is in the best seat in the world right now. Has a shot at the Triple Tiara (seems like a gimme with that filly) AND the only guy in the room that has opportunity to shoot for the Triple Crown!
Nicely done!

What a race and what a horse!

Awesome race!

Mine That Bird won the Sovereign Award for Champion 2 Year Old Male here in Canada.

If you want a Mine that Bird, you stand a better chance of getting one by breeding to Birdstone. (And like I said, as of about half an hour ago, he’s still cheap.)

I love that little horse. He was so calm and quiet while the jockey was practically doing backflips on top of him. (I second whoever said that he would be a nice hunter in another life!)

I agree that nobody really seems to be mentioning the horse or giving him too much credit. He passed those other horses like they were standing still.

I’m sure the horse doesn’t care that much, but I’d like to be learning more about him.

I took $25 for show on Mine that Bird and originally had win/place/show wager on the horse because of Calvin but scaled that back last minute to just $2 for show - oh well.

You cannot discount Calvin BoRAIL at Churchill Downs

He’s that honest southern-boy polite which works well on tv. Kudos to him!

And congratulations to Birdstone!

(He’s standing for $10K in 2009. A nice old-fashioned horse who’s never been fashionable.)
Wow that’s it, I remarked “geez bought for $9500 as a yearling the stud fee alone was probably six figures…” guess not!

Nice touch by trainer Woolley to mention the previous trainer, David Cotey up in Woodbine, who actually got Mine that Bird the graded stakes earnings he needed to qualify to the Derby.

So those of you who follow the pedigree side of things, what do you think about his heritage? I’m curious …

Yeah, that seems like one horse who shouldn’t have too much trouble finding a retirement home!

I had $200 on him on my conformation bet!

And his current trainer went out of his way to give credit to the Canadian trainer by name.

For those who expressed concern that no one was ‘fussing’ over the horse- you might consider the possibility that some horses just don’t like being fussed over- I have owned a couple such. Even if that’s not the case, really, I don’t see the big deal and am surprised it was mentioned.

They mentionned the horse will be 3 on May 10th!!

Amazing ride watching the aerial view. Way to thread the needle!!!
