I love that Calvin is soooo excited!!!
Amazing race for a $9500 horse!
WOW! Congrats to him!! I’m having just as much fun watching his reaction after the race!
So, what is Calvin’s paycheck for today? I love it when this guy wins!
I am posting on my own thread, but is Mine that Bird the only/first New Mexico horse to win the Derby?
WOW, they’re showing the aerial shot of how he weaved through the pack, nice!!
What a story!!! $9,500 dollar horse, trainer (or is he the owner? or both??) with broken ankle drives horse in own trailer to the Derby and frigging Calvin B rides him like RA and just pulls AWAY down the backstretch!!
I am LOVING this!!!
I can only say WOW.
And congratulations to Birdstone!
(He’s standing for $10K in 2009. A nice old-fashioned horse who’s never been fashionable.)
Jockey looks so happy! Odd that the owner (trainer?) with the broken leg hugged the jockey but didn’t touch or pat the horse. I’m sure the grooms will give him love back at the barn, though.
I wish they had gotten more coverage pre-race. The jockey and trainer seem like real characters and cool people!
Go Calvin The Rail!
And that little horse barely looked tired…
Wonderful race that just goes to show why people still dream the dream of getting a horse to the derby without a huge pocketbook. And an amazing double for Calvin Boreal.
A $9500 50-1 shot who came by truck from New Mexico.
Calvin Borel is having a very good weekend.
That was a nice piece of riding. He seemed perhaps a smidge lucky when he went through that one hole and it nearly closed up on them. But then, that might have just been part of the nice piece of riding
I was noticing how no one was fussing over the horse. Knuckleheads.
But comically, right now you can’t get on pedigreequery.com, because everyone in the country is asking “Who the heck is 'Mine That Bird??”
Horse has a common head, but a great build, and dealt well with all the idiocy going on around him.
Great race! Yeah for Calvin!
Who else had a “who’s that horse” moment when Mine That Bird broke through? In those few quick seconds I do not remember the announcers even mentioning who he was. It was like it took them by surprise, too.
My favorite part is seeing how excited Calvin is! A real Cajun Coon-Ass in full celebration mode!
Rock on, Calvin & Mine that Bird!
I totally noticed the same thing. Totally ignored the horse. And didn’t mention his horse in the win interview. Just Calvin. Odd.
Bad Storm, Missed Race
TV went off and computer went off due to hail storm just as the horses broke from the gate.
Please tell me all what happened!!! Now the TV is on but the channel that was covering the race is now ONLY COVERING the collapse of the Cowboys practice facility.
No horse news at all on our local NBC channel.
Please give me info
