Concrats to Calvin on that ride. When he rides I worry that he might want the rail too much and get stuck, but then, yesterday on Rachael, he proved he could ride off it too.
I don’t think the “cowboys” were rude, I think the dumb X#$!! broadcasters got what they deserved for asking dumb questions and carrying on about the drive he made. I love one of the owners who just answered back about strategy like they had planned all along to get choked off at the start and fall to last. Love it, some of those boys were a lot faster on their mental feet then the people interviewing them. And if the interviewer can’t figure out the “chat” is over, that’s his problem, like when the trainer in the walk over got away from him. Maybe, in a few years, he’ll be more diplomatic but for now, it’s a breath of fresh air.
I don’t know that the horse wasn’t “loved on” a little in the shots we didn’t see but it would not surprise me if not. Most cowboys I’ve been around, the good ones, are good with one pat or word and you don’t see the horse resenting their treatment. By and large, at least with the good ones, don’t abuse a horse when you’re around them by pulling on their mouths or banging around on their backs, telling them to “go” yet holding them back with the bit. You’ll hear about that.
Besides, it’s your first Kentucky Derby, you’re on crutches, and you have to navigate around a crowd and the horse.
