I have competed one other horse in the 5yo YEH series and like the scoring system as well as the low-key type courses. However, the horse I’ve entered historically has been my UL/Adv prospect.
However, right now I have a 5yo pony-stallion prospect (15h to be precise, but pony in breeding) that I’m considering entering in this type of class. He has been competing at Novice well and I don’t see why he shouldn’t be ready to move up to Training at the end of the summer. So as far as the event itself, I think it’s a great learning experience and he’ll gain confidence from it. As there are not a lot of other options for him as far as young-horse testing am wondering if this is the correct opportunity for him.
My concern is that whether these events are meant to showcase potential 5***** horses or meant to gauge general aptitude for eventing. Certainly the Championship is used to pick out the very top young horses. But, I’m curious as to whether horses that show skill at the level of the events but not gearing towards International events are attending these as well.
