Yellow clear crystal like scabs

Hello! i own a welsh cob cross he is a bay tobiano and has four stockings. he has is full winter coat with feathers and all. he has recently been getting these nasty yellow serum like scabs all over his legs and some on his face. i have been treating it with a drying paste and antibacterial ointment. i was wondering if anyone else has a horse with this as i still don’t have a name for what he has. they don’t seem to itch or hurt him but in my nearly year of owning him he has just now gotten them.
thanks in advance!

Sounds like a reaction to tick bites.

Ditto tick bites. They often don’t itch in those areas, and don’t hurt.

i was thinking that but my other horse who is always in the same paddock with him has him has none of them! and in the summer when i pulled ticks he had a slight swelling reaction instead of a weepy skin.

I have a horse who gets a kind of skin crud like this on his white legs. It’s very strange, but obviously some kind of local skin infection. I can’t tell if it’s fungal or bacterial, but it only shows up in winter. Last winter, both horses got it. It’s not scratches & only showed up on sides of cannons, very odd location. It didn’t hurt, but left untended, it will turn into a giant gross scab.

It did not respond well to any of mine or vet’s usual go-to recommendations (chlorhex, desitin, fungasol, etc all failed). I did finally clear it up by clipping the area, spraying daily with Microtek spray & washing 1-2 x per wk with Microtek shampoo.

I haven’t seen it on their faces, only white legs.

Every year when my horse first goes out on grass he gets this on his face and legs. I think I posted on here about it, and the consensus was rain rot. I’m not 100% sure that was it. Either way, I just kept them clean and they went away quickly.

I have a pony with allergies and every once in a while he will get hives. Occasionally a few of the hives will look as you described. If it is going to happen to my guy it is usually on his cheeks and chin. Just thought I would mention it as hives can be a little hard to see sometimes when they are wearing their winter woolies.
My pony is a Welsh with four stockings, too ☺
