Yet Another Horseware Liner Question

Have any of you successfully used the liners with the Wug (high neck) turnouts? I know there aren’t any rings on the inside of the turnouts’ necks to which to attach the liners’ Velcro tabs, but I’m thinking they shouldn’t slip around if the liners are attached to the rear rings.

Have you tried this? Did it work? Thanks.

Yes and it worked perfect. I only have Wug turnouts and pop a Horseware liner underneath for really cold days. I connect the back snaps to the rings for the tail cord and the whole thing moves together.

It’s not a high neck, but I’ve used the Horseware liners for five years now with the Smartpak Ultimate sheet, which also doesn’t have attachment points for the Velcro tabs around the neck. I attach the clips to the leg strap rings at the very back and that’s it, and it’s never shifted even a little bit.

I do the same as @theresak. Works absolutely fine for me too!

I have a Rambo liner and use it without attaching the neck velcros. It closes in the front and then clips to the back rings, no issues with it sliding or shifting at all.

Yes, I’ve done it. No issues, worked well.

Yup, no problems at all. I’ve also successfully used the HW liners with many brands of blanket - I just make sure they are attached to each other via the rings for the leg straps and call it a day. Haven’t had one shift one me yet.

I have my horse in WUGS, the liner he wears is actually from Schneiders and it works out fine.

Thanks, everyone! That’s what I hoped to hear. I appreciate your feedback. Not sure I’ll go with the Wug, but going to give it a try to see if it’ll work for Miss Hard-to-Fit. If so, I wanted to know if the liners would work out.

I had a scary experience once when I didn’t attach the two layers together at the shoulders… somehow the velcro on the liner came undone and worked itself out the “back”… where it was then trailing behind my horse since it was clipped there. I wouldn’t recommend using the liners without properly attaching them.

Thanks for the heads-up. Will keep that in mind!

It must depend on the fit of the liner through the neck/chest, because there is no way I could use the Horseware liners on my warmblood without attaching them at the neck - they would end up extremely twisted. The Rambo turnout (with the v-clip front) is a great fit through the neckline and chest and doesn’t move, but the chest strap of the liner is set way too low for my horse, and allows the front to twist sideways very easily if it’s not attached. I ended up sewing on an extra plastic clip above the velcro closure on the liner, because even attached at the neck it still moved around a little bit. That mostly solved the problem but I still wouldn’t use the liner without attaching it to the turnout rug at the neck to keep it stable.

(I have different weights in the liners and the turnout rug and liners are all labelled as 84 inch).

I use the Horseware liner without attaching at the neck. I use it with a non-HW blanket & just clip to rear rings. It’s worn by a very frisky, narrow OTTB who also doesn’t so much roll as grind himself into muck with a purpose. Liner has never shifted even a tiny bit.

Good idea and something I will keep in mind.

Here’s to hoping I have the same experience. Primarily, I’m hoping the Wug sheet fits. Girly is built uphill and the line from wither to point of shoulder is deep. All her blankets tend to slip back…”sliding” backwards down the hill…just enough to get tight on the base of her neck. Friend of mine with two horses of similar conformation says the Wug fit prevents that tightness around the neck. We shall see! Fingers crossed!
