You May Not Like Bullfighting, But . . .

. . . it’s amazing to see what this horse does after the rider dismounts.

That horse is now on my virtual trailer, headed to my virtual stable, after purchasing him for $$$$ with my virtual bank account. lol.

The Baroque breeds are very protective of their people. My little Andalusian gelding will protect you if you are walking through his herd and the others get rowdy. Incredibly loyal and intelligent horses.

THIS is my favorite bull fighting video… Simply amazing

My Paso mares are the same way. One day, I was charged by a nasty horse out in the field and my Paso ran between me and the other horse and double barreled it right in the chest.

GotGait–Pasos are great little horses!

Do they slaughter the bull at the end of the “fight”?

Yes. the animal usually bleeds to death from the various swords sticking in it. Organized, government sanctioned animal cruelty.

IMHO, of course.

After I saw the original video of Merlin back in 2006/2007, I actually tried to research what happens with the bulls.

What I found was that they get “harassed” and jabbed with the short spears in the video. Those spears are just long enough to jab in and hold the thick skin, they do not kill the animal. When the bull is sufficiently pissed off, the matador comes in on foot. The end of the “show” is when the bull is stabbed through the chest, behind the shoulder blade, and directly into the heart. It dies instantly. I also read that they process the bull immediately and it is consumed.

Personally, I don’t get too worked up about it. Those bulls live the life of riley until the day comes that they step into that arena, and then they are dead shortly after. I think I’d prefer to go out that way than to shuffle along in a line headed for the kill box and a bolt gun.

I agree. How people can take enjoyment from torturing an animal before killing it is incomprehensible to me. I don’t care if they feed it to needy people afterwards. There is no excuse for the torture.
The horses are incredible, but don’t need to be part of a torture exhibition to show their abilities.

A piss-poor excuse to kill an animal this way for human entertainment.

Replace bull with dog or horse. Now how do you feel?

I think it’s despicable.

That horse is obviously not one of the usual poor horses which are used in bull fighting. But even that horse in the video will end up gored and dead one day. Last week, pictures were all over the web showing one of the poor horses used in bull fighting being abandoned by the rider and gored by a bull in Spain. Sport? No way! Romanticized by people who love to see animal blood and death. Ernest Hemingway made bull fighting popular outside of Spain. It’s just the slow and deliberate killing of the bull, and often the horses die in the ring as well. I’ve never heard of a horse used in bullfighting being retired. They die in the ring.

How about replacing bull with another matador?

No. they receive a thrust through the heart with a sword.
If that is botched (under jeers of the audience) the bull is dispatched with a dagger. I am assuming the throat is cut.

Now
of course the poking the bull with the spears and fancy looking skewers, that can be up for discussion.

Love this! Me too!

My understanding of the picadors is that they weaken the muscles, forcing the bull to lower his head so the matador can kill it more easily. Much more than an annoyance. More like torture.

Was this spontaneous, trained, or expected?
