This pair brought the house down at this recent Oldenburg show. :encouragement: :encouragement:
Riveting - Edward sits that big moving horse like it is an air cushion ride.
He can have him. What was that in the first ten seconds? Extended passage? These spidery movers just have some seriously strange gaits. I know…stallion show…electric atmosphere and all that.
Just give me your average mover that I can tell walk, trot and canter.
Susan
That is what you see at world class shows…the result of training and selective breeding.
I agree with Kyrabee. He looks so mechanical in his movement. Just not my cup of tea.

This! Amazing how easy he makes it look. My horse is a pretty big mover with lots of suspension and the extended trot makes me feel like being whiplashed.

Here you go -walk, trot, and canter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcYLfTQLaJ4 - average mover, not so much.
It’s a lot easier to sit a leg mover than a back mover. I’d rather have a back mover. It’s surprising that his sire is Don Schufro. (at 20yo)
If you look at the top of his top hat, it is going up and down to a considerable degree - more than I could sit - but it is never going to be my problem!
Ed Gal is amazing! So is this horse! Glad to see him on a super talented horse again;)
It is not the horse’s back making the movement though, it is his legs. Easier to sit. Not once in that video did the horse’s hind legs step anywhere near the imprint of the fronts. LOOKS all flashy and exciting though. He is definitely a product of Gal’s training.
Holy mother of…
loved it! This not spidery movements, rhythmic movements with airtime. Imo this horse has better synch of hind and front than Toto did…Toto was more of a leg mover.
EG is the ultimate elegant rider…look how quiet and forgiving his hands are. That is the real art form. One can learn to sit a big moving horse, but sitting it and keeping the hands so forward yet quiet is the dividing line of riders like EG who possess great skill What is the horses name?
EG reminds of of Fred Astaire… light, elegant, with uncanny innate timing and musicality. He would have made a great dancer were he not a rider. What impresses me about Zonik ( thank you for the name) is his joy in performing that Toto had. I did not sense that joy in Underscore however
A love of performing is innate in certain horses that no amount of training or skilled riding can put in. Valegro has that quality though his expression of it is more serious and commanding. EG brings out a playful quality in his best partnership with a horse.

I don’t know about that - I’ve sat on a few non-moving backs, and it is jarring! Back movers give you a place to sit - there may be more movement, but it is softer, while a leg mover just bangs against the ground. Teeth rattling jarring. The only saving grace is most of them are small movers. I disagree that this horse is just a leg mover, and agree with Countrywood, there is much more hind end going on with this one then Toto (and I thought Toto was pretty special when ridden by Gal, I am not a Toto basher). Gal is capable of producing incredible collected work in a horse - with great energy and buoyancy. It is pretty special to see that!
Nearly all the top riders esp at international level have fantastic seats and great skill. what sets EG and Charlotte apart is their ability to bring out greatness in a horse, and make it look effortless. Anky had those same qualities, its a shame she went down the path she did
I watched the entire stallion parade on the livestream and Zonik was absolutely stunning in all three gaits, not just the big trot. I actually liked his movement much more than I ever liked Totilas’ (who is really charismatic but has his big weaknesses). Really the highlight of the show. And he seemed very relaxed and well behaved as well. Even Sezuan, Dante Weltino etc. looked very average compared to him. If he stays healthy I’m sure he’ll be a great partner for Edward for the future.
Obviously, it’s a stallion show and the horses are usually ridden much more flamboyantly at those than at actual competitions (or at home) because the whole point is to impress breeders and show off the horse’s movement and natural ability.
So beautiful to watch, thank you.
In my dreams I ride just like E.G. Then I wake up… and I’m more like a Hobbit on a Thelwell pony.
Does anyone know the name of the horse in the OP and his lineage?
Glock’s Zonik, he’s by Zack x Romanov.
