You, or Horse's, Relative At the Olympics?

Do you, or your horse, have a relative competing in the Beijing Olympics?

I think we have Miner’s Frolic in eventing (Teddy’s relative) and there is an undisclosed Pentathalon Mom on here.

I bet we have several in dressage. Let’s here from all of you!

My horse “Fly Me Home” is half-brother to “Falcao” who is competing in Individual dressage for Austria. They are both sired by Feiner Stern. Given FS’s recent passing nice to have one of his babies carrying the torch for him.

Kind of cool similarity, huh?

If we’re counting relatives to the “we wish they were there’s” yes, I have an adorable full brother to Theodore O’Connor munching hay in my barn this very moment. I was looking forward to giving him play by play, but he is unconcerned by the fuss.

Post a photo!!! That would be lovely to see and remind us of Teddy.

oh, guess I am a little slow. Will have to tell him a bit about Miners Frolic!-

Would past Olympics count?? Carrick’s nephew lives here.

Not quite, gals. Ted’s Mom and sister produced foals by Miner’s Frolic’s sire. Got one by Summersong’s sire in the oven, too!

We have a half brother of mandiba where i board. his name is Master Illusion, he is a a sweet heart on the ground but i guess he has a nasty buck which i would say he could have he is at least 17.1 blood-bay with a short back. He hurt his rider back in april and he was sat for the past months he leaves for flordia with his owner end of the month. Another girl and I are going to miss free jumping him 3’9 and him just canter over them  like are you guys really think thats big? watch this  We are going to miss you M.I.

Courageous Comet is by Comet Shine. I had a colt in 2005 by Comet Shine & I currently own a mare by Comet Shine. The colt is headed to the hunter ring & the mare could be a fancy hunter but due to injury she’s a broodmare. I have seen Comet Shine in the flesh & he is fantastic!

Do you still own her? Have you bred her yet? To whom? Does she move like CC, too?

Oh you guys are just making me DRROOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLL!! Thank goodness for great breeders!

Please post photos of these horsey relatives too.

The dressage stallion Vincent ridden by Bernadett Pujals is by Weltmeyer. My little mare Wolte (by Wolkentanz) is a Weltmeyer granddaughter. The japanese dressage rider is also riding a mare named Whisper (by Wolkenstein II, who is another Weltmeyer son.) My previous show horse was also by Wolkenstein II.
Lotsospots who posts here also has a mare by Briar, who is representing Sweden in dressage.

My wild beast mare is a cousin of one of the showjumping horses (can’t remember which ahh!). Her grandsire on her mom’s side is Voltaire, and one of the showjumper’s sire is Voltaire. It made me smile to see that in the Chronicle.

Do human relatives count? Not competing, but certainly working (for NBC, actually)

I want to say our crazy red Irish horse is related to Parkmore Ed (via Carnival Knight, but I could be wrong. I seem to remember hearing something about Carnival Knight and Parkmore Ed). He IS related to both of Leslie Law’s Shear boys (they are by Carnvial Knight, Ruby is out of a mare by Carnival Knight), and several other British and Irish bred horses, many of whom have competed at 4 star. Ruby was capable, just unwillingly.

My boy is by Donnerhall, so of course! And I would have been surprised if there were not.

Can I lie and say he is JUST LIKE Don Schufro?

Carnival Night is the paternal g-sire of Parkmore Ed. He is also the damsire of the Shear brothers, not their sire (same relationship as your mare).

Thanks for the clarification, though I could swear the Shear boys were by him. Oh well. It would be more fun to boast about his relations if he actually lived up to his potential!

Not horse related but my nephew is at the Olympics as the swimming coach for the US Virgin Islands Swim Team - there is only one swimmer on the team, and five athletes altogether, i think. But still pretty impressive.

My jumper is by Darco, who is Sapphire’s father :). Darco has also sired a lot of horses on the grand prix circuit (Ublesco, Tarco van ter Moude, Tarco, etc).

My filly is a double cousin of Courageous Comet–Fappiano and Vice Regent as grandsires.
