Your All-Time Favorite Horse-related Purchases/Products

Tell me your top 3 favorite horse related purchases/products- anything from clothing to tack to grooming/health products (not including your actual horse).

Mine are:

  1. Getting WERM flooring installed in my trailer- even if I get a new trailer in the future, I will NEVER go back to mats!
  2. Tredstep pure aircool socks- I finally discovered the most perfect socks. They have padding exactly where you want it, and thin, breathable material where you don’t. They are tight enough around my calf that they never drop, but strecthing enough not to cut off my circulation.
  3. Tuffrider Regal tall boots- super soft leather with no break in time and have been reasonably durable considering how bad I have treated them.

Hands-On grooming gloves are tops in my book.

Although, my mare would vote for Mrs. Pasture’s Horse Cookies.

I’m pretty fond of my (1.) Justin Boots (the Gypsy style in Pink Camo). I wear them too much. To muck, ride, hike, yard work, etc. I’ve even been known to clean them up and wear them with a skirt much to the chagrin of my more sophisticated friends haha.

  1. Kerrits riding tights. SmartPak has good sales on them. I will wear them in any color. They’re cute. They’re light weight and breathable. And I live in Texas. nuff said.

  2. Ariat Heritage Tall field boots. They weren’t very pricey for a nice tall boot. I love them. They fit my weird short round calves. I ride in them almost daily and they clean up nice for local shows.

#1- switched from shavings to pelleted bedding.
Even with horses out pretty much 24/7, the time I save cleaning is sooooooooo worth it!
Lasts longer, less waste, composts quickly, bags store in less space < pallet of 50 fits on a 4X8 pallet skid.

#2 - Dollar Tree gingersnaps
Why pay $5 or more for horse treats when a $1 bag lasts my Treat Hos for almost a week < dispensed 3 apiece at nightcheck & sparingly at other times Just Because

#3 - my cute skull-print rubber boots from Horseloverz* - cool in Summer, warm in Winter (with socks) going on Year 3, still watertight even with a split on the top of one.
Note to Self: buy Shoe Goo

*So CUTE!

Interestingly a barn local to me (run by friends of mine) just put the kabash on these, Irideons and Devon Aire tights because they were too see through and they were not making for pleasant lesson experiences.

It was a mental picture that alternated between making me laugh and cringe.

Haha Oh no!! I haven’t had that problem with mine. I think it may depend on size. While I imagine that I could squeeze into the small, I think that it would be cringe-worthy! I wear a medium and they’re not loose but they’re very comfy. And you can’t see my underwear or anything through them, even when I’m jumping.

Or maybe I have an older style that they don’t make anymore (which would be my luck!) and I’ll be sad to find that out if they’re not as high quality as before. :frowning:

TS Mid-rise Trophy Hunters - tried a gazillion breeches and tights over the years and these are the only ones that really fit
My Noble Outfitters ring bag - I call it the magical ring bag because I’ve stocked it with everything imaginable! And it was a gift from a sweet friend.

Everything Ecolicious for grooming- seriously love all of it from detanglers to sheath cleaners! (Also, for those who braid/get their horses braid I highly recommend the braiding cream! My braids look perfect all day, and when I taken them out at the end her mane is beautifully soft and no hair gets ripped out by accident!)

my TS breeches are the only pants I like riding in, they fit me perfect.

And my Samshield. Zero regret spending the money on it as it fits my head like it was made for me.

Electro Groom - It really sucks!!

Parlanti boots - finally a nice boot for short people (thank you, Italians!) Not all of us were born to be tall, elegant eq riders.

LeFash show shirts - so amazing that I wear them to work, too

  • Tea Clenz--I use this after every ride in summer--just a slash in a half-bucket of water keeps the crud at bay. I use on hind cannon bones and on my horse's face where sweat and dirt collect under her fly mask at night. This stuff also works wonders on rain rot. I go through 2-3 bottles every summer.
  • Moxie Air-Puff half chaps and gloves for summer. Here in the humid Deep South, regular half chaps are unbearable in the summer. These are the only ones I can stand wearing in July and August.
  • Ariat Sunstopper show shirt--it is all-white, cool, comfortable, inexpensive, and well-fitting. It looks nice under a jacket. My favorite feature is the fact that the long sleeves have no cuffs. This actually makes it so much more comfortable than my "fancier" show shirts. I find myself reaching for this shirt every time I go to a show, especially in summer.

My trailer!
My truck!
Finally breaking down and buying a grippy fake suede seat Wintec saddle! I’m still waiting for the day to come about when I don’t enjoy that fake suede anymore… hasn’t happened yet…

My trailer! My truck! As well.

My truck cost less than the replacement value of my saddle

  1. My all-time favorite purchase would definitely have to be my CWD 2Gs saddle! I absolutely adore it, and it has done wonders for my riding and my horses’ backs. It sure was a big investment, but it has been well worth the money.

  2. My custom brushes from The Artful Equine have to come in second. They are beautiful, and they are very well made. They have been my favorite brushes ever since I received them, and I use them almost every day.

  3. Last but not least - Ogilvy baby pads. I have at least six, and I love every single one of them. They are the only pads that I use anymore. They’re easy to clean, no-slip, and conform wonderfully to the horse’s shape - definitely worth the money!

My Charles Owen helmet, it is one of the few that I have had over the years that fits my noggin and does not give me headaches.
Also, my El Cheapo mini harness from Big Dee’s. Surprisingly, the best $129 I ever spent.
Oh, and an older Pessoa that I picked up used. It fit both me and mare perfectly. I got lucky with that!

My new favorite thing is the Tiger’s Tongue Grooming Sponge. I was admiring them at one of the vendors at a horse show, but had no cash on me, and a friend brought me one the next day. Great on dust, dried sweat; works in conjunction with water or water with shampoo. Somehow removes dust and shavings without getting dust all over the person doing the grooming. Even the most sensitive horses don’t seem to mind it. Since I got mine about ten more people have gotten one at my barn. I’m dealing with a frankenfoot issue that limits (and now excludes bathing) my horse and this thing has been a life saver. Or at least has avoiding having a grungy looking horse.

  1. The huge bag of small white towels from Costco. I always have a towel at hand, and when one gets too grungy for even the washing machine, I can just throw it away.

  2. BOT no bows. I use them at horse shows and never have a problem with stocking up or sore legs.

  3. My spray bottle of 50% alcohol and 50% liniment. Makes post-ride grooming in the winter a snap!

  1. My Palm Beach Voltaire. Never had such a wonderful fit for my horse and myself.

  2. Back on Track quick wraps. Save a ton of time and work incredibly well.

  3. AA MotionLite coat. Best value by far, will never go back to traditional coats in hot weather.

ah, I’ve been debating getting one and I am so glad to hear you love it. It just looks like it is so comfy and stays very cool!

Top three for me would have to be:

  1. Custom half chaps - I got them as a gift in 2005 and I STILL ride in them. They’re going strong and fit me like a glove and the craftsmanship is second to none. Worth every penny in my book.
  2. Tack trunk: literally a godsend. It houses EVERYTHING and nothing has to live in my car. I couldn’t live without it and I don’t even own my own horse anymore - just a place for literally all my stuff!
  3. My nice wool dress sheet - it’s got my monogram so it can survive horse after horse and still work. Just looks so nice for the cooler fall and winter shows and I love having it. Something I think everyone should invest in!
