Your favorite cell phone case for trail riding

Where on your body do you carry your phone when you trail ride? What kind of case do you use? Do you regularly use your phone while riding, (ie answer calls or texts etc). What if you need reading glasses as well - where do you keep them?

If you can link to a page that shows your gear, that would be great.

I carry a waist pack with a little zipper pouch for my phone.

Mostly I use the phone to track my ride (Android and iPhone both support Endomondo), and to have in case of emergency. On group rides, it’s handy to have in case part of our group gets separated.

I don’t usually just chat or text while riding, I want to enjoy my horse

Mine sort of like this - I have several.

I use this one if I’m just out for an hour or so on the neighborhood trails:

And this one when I’m out longer or on more isolated trails (I’m amazed at how much I can fit in this thing!):

Do you put the small one on your arm or leg?

I really like the SPI belts. I don’t even notice my phone when I’m riding with it and this also includes jumping and flat work.

On my leg right below my knee. Makes it easy access.

My phone is in a Lifeproof case and I attach it to my leg just below the knee using an armband around my leg. I only ride around my own property and up the road, so I don’t have to worry about a lot of brush or such getting caught on it, but that might be a problem if I was out in rougher areas. I want the phone with me if I fall, and don’t want it on my waist/body where it might cause more damage (to me!) if I fall on it.

I rarely answer or text if I’m riding, but like to have it in case of an emergency, or to take pictures if something interesting shows up (like the 4 bald eagles flying over head this fall). It was also good to have when my jackass warmblood bucked me off last month and I needed to call for help. That’s why I’d rather have it on me than attached to the saddle.

Similar to others, I wear my phone on my leg, just below my knee over my half chaps. I use it to track my rides, and for emergency. I don’t take calls, though I might look at a text during a break.

Mine is similar to the Riding Warehouse link, though I sewed it from neoprene, Velcro and elastic. (There is a picture of it near the end of this post: http://trails-and-trials-with-major.blogspot.com/2014/04/all-greens.html?)

I used to keep it on silent, which I preferred. But then I thought if I was ever unconscious/unable to answer that someone might hear it and find me more easily. So I keep the volume on. Make sure your horse is ok with that!

I carry mine in my pocket.

I have a generic neoprene armband which I wear just below my knee.

I use this one. On the back it has a strap for a belt.

I rarely answer my phone/texts while I ride. I have on two rides since I was riding with a friend who had a horse alone at home who was not used to being alone. Her DH was periodically checking on him. If the horse at home started to get agitated we would need to cut our ride short. She did not have a way to carry her own phone.
I mostly use the phone for Endomondo to track my rides, take photos/video and to have in case of an emergency.
My previous phone I had a case for my calf but my newer Smartphone was too big for that case. I preferred it on the calf as I felt it was easier to access there. I don’t really notice it on my hip. I have not tried the clip on this case as I was afraid that would bounce around too much and annoy me.

I use this little number on my arm. Carries my keys too. I imagine if I were ever to start jogging, I would use it too.

I love my Cashel AnkleSafe. sorry, but I have no idea how to share a link but it is easy to google.
The AnkleSafe is big enough to care my phone, an expired driver’s license for ID, and a dose of Benadryl. I’m sure it would also hold a pair of reading glasses and/or other small items.
I chose this item after several discussions with different riders about where to place a phone so that, in the event of a fall, the phone stays with the rider and will not be crushed or cause additional injuries. Upper arm, hip, waist, back were all places where the phone is likely to get crushed between the ground and the rider’s body in most accidents.

Ok, I lost my wallet out of my pocket on a ride yesterday. So I will be moving on to a real holder. PS A replacement California Drivers License costs $27!!!
