Your favorite chore boots?

What do you recommend for a good barn boot (doing chores, walking/standing, teaching, etc) that is comfortable? I have the Ariat Terrain boot that is almost worn out. Only reason I’m not buying another pair is that they’re pretty short in height, so shavings get inside and even just walking briskly in our indoor, I’ll feel rubber chips getting into my boot

I was looking at the Ariat Tracey pull-ons. They look pretty western, but I don’t care about that. But $130.00 is more than I wanted to spend. What are your faves?

I love my Hunter boots. They don’t have great foot/arch support but when I’m not in the barn I’m barefoot or in sandals, so it doesn’t bother me.

I love that I don’t need to worry about what I walk through, or if there’s mud or whatever. I also find them very comfortable and I’ve had mine since 2004 and they’ve held up very well.

I also like that I don’t have to lace anything up.

I love my Muck Boots. I think mine are called Chore boots.

Sorry! I should have specified I wanted a leather boot.

RegentLion: I have Hunter boots. They stayed waterproof for about a year and now they leak ever so slightly. If it’s raining or snowy, my feet are wet in the front half of my foot. I paid a lot for them and was very disappointed.

I try not to be too vain, but the Muck Boots just look so clunky and clumsy. I know they are VERY popular, but just not ready to go there yet. Again, I prefer a leather boot.

Thanks!!

Have you tried river boots? I don’t have any but they are EXTREMELY popular for eventers down here. Personally I just have a pair of cheap rain boots that work just fine for me.

I went through two pairs of Hunters in 4 years, and blew through a pair of $40 wellies in two months. I am interested to see the feedback here, I loved my Hunters but can’t afford them to only last a year or two. The muck boot types are just too hot when it’s 80°+ and humid for me.

Thanks! I WILL check out the River Boots!!

I agree on the muck boots. Very clunky. I don’t have leather chore boots so can’t chime in there.

Around here it is an ongoing search for comfortable, durable barn boots.
I like the Muck Chore boots ok in the winter, but they are too hot for me in the summer. They also tend to rub just above the ankle in the back on me.
I have gone through two pair of Hunter boots, I wrecked them far too easily by pulling them off using my other foot.
I had a pair of Dublin River boots, and found them hard to get on and off in a hurry.
So that brings me back to Blundstones.
Over the years I have had a number of pairs of them. They are comfortable, sturdy, look cute (very important!) - look fine to wear to town or to horse shows. They are warm enough with thick socks in the winter, and I can wear them all day without pain.
I also got a pair of $29 Hunterish rubber boots at Target in red for muddy/rainy days.

I love those Ariat Terrains - I have a pair that I trail-ride in, and they’re still my first choice for barn shoes. I agree about getting shavings down in them, though.

I bought a pair of Muck boots and have been thoroughly impressed - they don’t feel at all clunky (though I thought they would), they have held up, and my feet don’t get sore. Nowhere near warm enough for winter in Vermont, but just fine for the other three seasons.

Have you thought about the Ariat cowboy boots? They’re not really my style, but that is what they’re designed for, and they’re leather. After that I’d look at the Dubarry boots and their knockoffs, ie the Dublins.

I got a pair of red wing boots ( bonus American made) and they are heavy but durable and so far waterproof ( it forgot to rain in California this year)
I had a pair of Justin ropers that lasted a good eight years awhile back and I could also ride in them

I keep ending up with the LL Bean duck boots. Not particularly stylish but they are durable and waterproof. If you don’t need super waterproof, I would just get hiking boots though.

Love my Blundies! Used to wear Ariats, but got sick of paying for them to last only 6 months. My Blundstones last much longer

ETA: And I do chores, ride and teach all day in them!

I’ve got a pair of the 12" muck boots that are 6 years old, last year they split on the top at the ball of my foot, and I repaired them with shoe goo to get me though the muddy season, but its time to replace them. I would absolutely buy another pair, they are very comfortable, and easy to work in, waterproof like a frog’s butt, and best of all for me, I can just slip them on without bending over to pull them on. This thread got me doing a google shopping search. Turns out Dick’s sporting goods has a pair in pink and black…think it might be time to make that purchase!

Since Blunnies were sourced to China, I have moved onto the Red Back boots. I got them at Equine Affaire, but you can get them on line:

Dublin River boots. Hands down. My last pair lasted just about 4 years, are super comfy, and stayed waterproof until the last spring I had them. They’re stylish too - I used to get compliments when I wore them to class!!!

These look great IFG, thanks for the link!

Hmmm…I do like the Hunting Boot version of the Muck Boot on Dick’s website!

I have the short river boots for every day. They’re not too hot but are still waterproof.

Ariat Terrain mid-calf pull-ons that look like a “roper boot.” Warm in winter, waterproof within reason, easy on and off, and above all SUPPORTIVE. I’d be 3-legged lame in one day if I tried to wear Hunters for chores; too much heavy lifting for zero arch support! The price of the Terrains is worth it; I consider it Business Expense.
