Your favorite comments from the Olympics

I am watching on the BBC and some of the comments have cracked me up!

“We really need to see that walk going somewhere.” About a horse’s (poor) extended walk in dressage this morning.

“There’s not a shred of arrogance in her superiority.” Talking about Simone Biles in Gymnastics and how humble she is.

Coth (Lindsay Berreth and Mollie Bailey) wrote an excellent recap of today’s dressage results :
http://www.chronofhorse.com/http%3A/%2Fwww.chronofhorse.com/olympics-grand-prix-day-2

in it thay say

•Russian rider Inessa Merkulova has a ritual with Mister X: before every competition she reads to him for an hour and a half. He prefers romance novels, and yes, he has read 50 Shades Of Gray.

Cute

Hearing Tim Daggett say the words “Gymnastics 101” over and over and over (and over) is my favorite comment. NOT!!!

“And now, the beach volley ball, being played at Copacabana Beach, which is an actual beach.” No kidding! I’d never have known, particularly not with that nice aerial shot you’re showing me of the… beach.

(They went on to talk about how other Olympics have brought in sand to build the beach volley ball court and the differences that makes, so it wasn’t as funny as it first sounded.)

I already love that pair! I don’t know that I like that choice of reading material, but still…

Commentator on eventing dressage said when a riders horse was being naughty.
“He’s throwing his teddies out of the pram.”??

“I think I was born to have babies and play volleyball.” – Kerry Walsh Jennings, in a feature piece.

For the few who haven’t already read Carl Hester’s delightful Facebook post on his test:

“Frustratingly a Pokemon at P! A lot of points lost but lots to like! Tomorrow is another day!!”

These are treasures.

The Brits have a certain turn of phrase that makes me smile.

Simone Biles?[/QUOTE]

Yes, typo

Also love that the ground jury from eventing is scribing for judges in Dressage. “Wonderful interaction between the disciplines.”

I LOVE that! I think we could use that out here. There’s a recent example out here where someone altered the post for a topic they started. I need to remember this one.

A favorite from Ian Stark this morning “Horse is looking a bit strangled in the neck”
I died

From a recap of the eventing: “In the last vet-check, Leonidas trotted up sound but the same could not be said for Sir Mark Todd.”
And considering the number of stray bullets around, we can only hope that Stephen Hadley does not say that thing he likes to say when someone goes early on in a jump-off and is clean and fast. “He’s there to be shot at.”

This may be my favorite quote of all time.

Since you put ?? after, I will explain the quote (hopefully I am not restating the obvious)

Pram = stroller
“teddy” = teddy bear, which is generic for any plush/soft toy given to babies.

Thus, the hissy fit the horse was having = a baby throwing a tantrum and throwing his toy on the sidewalk in anger because he is not getting his own way.

The image it brings to mind is a perfect example of what the horse was doing.

oh, man, too many bizarre comments by a former female rower during the women’s eight rowing team final. I was laughing so hard. She was so excited that they were going to get the gold for the third Olympics in a row, I don’t think she knew who or what she was talking about. I wish I could remember them.

Dressage commentator (British) on NBC livestream describing how the neck conformation on Lusitanos and PRE’s prevents them from going with their poll as the highest point, as required in the FEI rules.

But there was no mention of the same fault when BNRs on other breeds also ride with the poll lower than it should be.

“Rider might consider putting those three judges on her Christmas card list this year.”

Loving the live stream commentary!!
