Your favorite joint supplement for an older dog?

I am currently giving my aged husky Cosequin for dogs and she seems to be having positive results, but was wondering if others had better results with other supplements. My vet’s office sells Phycox and they say its formulation is more specific to canines. Any thoughts?

i see big results with Actiflex with my 14 year old dog with a back injury- when I ran out for a week she couldn’t walk.

My parents had good luck with Trixsyn with their dog and I had good luck with it on my cat. For the cat I got the large dog size and downsized the dose. Same company that makes Hyaluronix for horses.

I had good results with Phycox until my dog started refusing to eat it. I then went to Glycoflex Stage 3 which she still
gets and still eats. Glycoflex is also very effective. The first two Adequan shots really helped my dog but after that there was no further improvement. Sometimes you have to experiment til you find something that works.

Phycox and Adequan are what I used

Actistatin Canine by GLC Direct.

Used for a dog with hip dysplasia. Tried Adequan and Pentosan with no noticeable results. This joint chew was the only thing that made her sound.

I still use Lubrisyn (Hyaluronic Acid) on my old dog on days when she seems creaky and painful. Eases any pain within
20-30 min. and she’s good for the rest of the day. I’ve used it on myself so I know it does help.

Hylasport Canine by Horsetech. Highly recommend this stuff - works wonders on my 8-1/2 year old 84-lb rescue who plays hard. He’s very, very active and rarely slows down now that he’s a farm dog. He got a little sore after playing before I put him on this last year and since then there’s been no signs of soreness.

Cosequin DS Soft Chews w/ MSM.

My 7 year old, EXTREMELY active, mini poodle (who has two TPLO knees) does fabulous on it. I notice a difference when I forget to give it to her on occasion. Bailey (dog) acts like she is maybe 3…physically in great shape, and I give a lot of credit to how active she has been able to stay…the Cosequin really helps. Started it in 2015 after her first TPLO surgery. She is still on the “loading dose” because it is one chew every day, instead of one chew every other day (which I would totally forget and then thats not helpful), but our vet said that was fine.

I have looked into other supplements, but Bailey is picky about what she eats, and the Cosequin is working so why fix it if it isnt broken.

A good friend of mine gives her Rottweiler Dasequin Soft Chews…which is also by NutraMax but I think the only difference is that it is specific for bigger dogs, but not positive! That might be worth looking at?

I was not a fan of Cosequin for my horses, because of the cost and I didn’t notice ANY difference, but I notice a huge difference in my dog…so then I wonder if its canine vs equine, or if its more individual animal specific?

Following up on this thread after 2 months on the Phycox. I have seen HUGE improvements over Cosequin. My 15 year old dog jumped up into the back of my Subaru for the first time in years. Needless to say she will stay on it for the duration.

Thanks for the update! I am going to give Phycox a try. Cosequinn dx no longer seems to be helping with our 11 year old dog.

M going to try it too and I can get it on amazon

Okay, I just got some. I have my older guy who is gimpy, on my own joint supplements. I just added liquid H/A and what a difference already. I like i can stop giving him most of my supplements with the Phycox. It does not have the Devil’s Claw, so I added that, along with the H/A. Got to keep him moving now that he has to keep up with a 2 year old Aussie!

NuVet Tabs has a great glu/chon tab. I love this product. My youngsters get the daily vitamins and my senior is on the joint supplement tabs. I have had outstanding success with this product. My young bitch has a strange allergy/scratching issue. After spending a fortune on meds, shots etc. I started her on these tabs and the problem resolved itself quite quickly. My breeder turned me onto them and also swears by them. All her dogs are on them and doing great. It is a super great product. Since putting my old lady on them she has been moving much better and doesn’t seem quite as effected by winter chills.

Daily Cetyl-M and monthly adequan shots.

If you have a Trader Joes in your area, they have a joint supplement that works just as good as much more expensive stuff. I forget what it’s called, but it’s not hard to find.
